Redskins Drop Another Close One!~by Jake Fischer

Calaveras County, CA...."Not executing," answered Gino Alberts when asked what has been the Redskins' weakness in close games. Tuesday night the Calaveras Redskins lost a close one in Amador to the Buffaloes, 62-64. The Redskins have had trouble winning close games, with the exception of their rival Bret Harte, and when playoffs come around that could prove to be their downfall. As of January 31, they are ranked 8th in the Section for Division 4, and if they win the games they are expected to, they should make the playoffs. They can hang with the top teams, but need to work on closing out games to survive in the post-season. Alberts led all scorers with 16 points, and narrowly missed a potential game winning shot at the end of the game.

The Redskins brought a seven point lead into the 4th quarter, due in part to a pair of double-doubles by Garret Cline (11 points, 12 rebounds) and Szac Franklin (13 points, 10 rebounds). However, they were unable to make plays on a strong Amador defense, while Amador slowly worked their way into the lead. Down by two points with time running out, Alberts was forced into a deep three-pointer by the tough defense of Amador's Max Perry. Although Alberts has shown the ability to make long range shots, this was not one of them. Time expired as the shot missed, giving the Buffaloes a 64-62 victory. Greg Baker provided a bright spot for the Redskins, scoring 11 points. Chris Simpson, Cody Freeman, and Jeremy Harrower each scored 5, 4, and 2 points respectively.

The Redskins will travel to Summerville on Friday for another key game.

Tip Off is at 7:30 PM
