Letter to the Editor~By The Calaveras Humane Society

Editor, One week ago the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department rescued ten horses from living in deplorable conditions. Pictures in newspapers, on the internet and on television painted a clear picture of the conditions in which these animals suffered. The Calaveras Humane Society is proud of the actions of the Sheriff’s department, Sgt Laurie Murray and the Animal Control officers in rescuing these horses and placing them in a secure, healthy and caring environment. We also thank Re Horse Rescue in Tuolumne County for moving the horses to that safe environment......

The Board of Directors of the Calaveras Humane Society has voted to donate $1000 from our General Fund for the feeding of the horses. We ask all of you to participate in this rescue by donating whatever you can afford for the feeding of these beautiful animals. There is no amount too large or small and all donations will be used directly for the care and feeding of the ten rescued horses. Over the next months this case of alleged abuse will be litigated. In the meantime let us, as a community, support the efforts of the Sheriff’s Department, Sgt. Murray and Animal Services as they help enforce the standards of care for the animals of this county by donating monies to feed these horses.

All donations should be sent to: Re Horse Rescue Ranch, P.O. Box 494, Jamestown, CA 95327.

Karen Elliott, Vice President of Operations
Calaveras Humane Society
