Michelle Plotnik Chosen as Irish Day Parade Grand Marshal!

Murphys, CA....Michele Plotnik, the guiding light behind Murphys Irish Day for many years, has been selected to be the Grand Marshal of this year’s Irish Day Parade when it makes its way down Main Street on Saturday, March 19, at 11 a.m. “One of the perks we get for organizing the parade is the honor of selecting the Grand Marshal,” states JoAnna Reagan, who along with her husband Bob orchestrates the parade. “We felt strongly that is was time for Michelle to have this recognition. She is not one to seek the spotlight, preferring to work tirelessly behind the scenes. The only reason she agreed to be the GM was that we made it clear that it was a condition of our agreeing to serve another year.”..........

Plotnik is a registered architect in the State of California and a Certified Green Building Professional. She has been providing architectural services in the foothill and high sierra regions since coming to Calaveras County in 1979. She moved to Murphys in 1991 and opened a solo office three years later. Since that time she has been actively involved in the Murphys Business Association.

She became an MBA officer in 2003 and was president from 2004 to the beginning of this year. She continues to be the chair of the Irish Day Committee.

“Irish Day has always been a fun event for me and I used to love volunteering at the beer booth and seeing all the people in town having a great time,” she says. “The surprising thing for me is how being involved with the event planning has given me an opportunity to meet so many wonderful people. I've had the benefit of having a very consistent planning committee for the years that I have been responsible for the event and I've come to think of all those people as good friends.

“It's just amazing the amount of work that all of these folks put into this event. And, even now, despite getting up at 4 am, I still feel myself smiling from ear to ear as I see the vendors getting set up and people rolling into town to get their spot for the parade.”

Plotnik admits there are always problems to confront and personalities to deal with, but she feels the results warrant the effort. “It's an exhausting and exhilarating day and I really enjoy my glass of wine and dinner in the middle of one of our packed and noisy restaurants full of locals and visitors talking up Murphys at the end of day.”

In the parade, Plotnik will be riding in a 1924 3-litre Bentley owned and driven by Rob Miller of Murphys.

Murphys Irish Day is presented each year by the Murphys Business Association with proceeds making it possible for the association to fulfill its goals of sponsoring projects that enhance the community and beautify the business district.
