Man Killed While Lying in Roadway ~By John Hamilton....CHP Needs Your Help!

Jenny Lind, CA...In a bizarre and horrific incident early Saturday morning 24 year old Craig Deherrera lost his life just after 5am. Mr. Deherrara was apparently lying on Milton Road covered in a sleeping bag when a 60 year old Lodi resident crested a small hill in his Chevy Pickup. As he crested the hill he observed an object in the roadway directly in front of his vehicle. He applied his brakes and swerved to the left. The pickup was only traveling at 35 mph but in the dark pre-dawn conditions the driver unable to avoid striking what was then an unknown object in his path...

He immediately returned to the scene and made the grisly discovery that he had struck Mr. Deherrera.

He called 911 to report the collision and remained on scene until Jenny Lind Fire Department personnel and CHP arrived on scene. Mr. Deherrera was pronounced dead at the scene.

At this time it is unclear why Mr. Deherrera was in the roadway or how long he hat been there.

The California Highway Patrol is seeking information on this collision and asking that anyone who can provide additional details to call 209.754.3541 and ask for Officer J Castillo.

From all of us at ThePineTree.net our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims family and also to the man who unfortunately collided with Mr. Deherrera.

The CHP release is attached..
