Raggio Donates Council Stipend to Branding Program

Angels Camp, CA.....The Angels Camp Brand Leadership Team announced today at the city council meeting that City Councilman Stuart Raggio is donating his monthly council stipend to the Angels Camp branding program. During the election campaign, Raggio pledged not to take the $300 monthly stipend the City pays to the elected members of City Council, but to donate it back to the community. In informing the Brand Leadership Team (BLT) of his decision, Raggio said he based it on the branding program’s importance to the long-term economic health of Angels Camp: “It’s the only economic development plan the city has and I believe that ensuring the plan is successful is very important to our city, our residents and our future generations.” .....

Chairman of the BLT Anne Forrest said that Raggio’s donation will increase the BLT’s current working budget by 50 percent and allow the team to expand its activities. “We just launched a marketing web site for Angels Camp, www.angelscampfun.com, that helps visitors plan trips to the area using Angels Camp as their base for lodging and dining and then taking day trips throughout the area.”

Another project underway is the installation of pole banners highlighting the various outdoor sports activities available in the area. When completed, the banners will stretch from the north end of Main Street all the way to Angels Creek. Of the 36 banners, 23 have been sponsored by outdoor sports providers such as Greenhorn Creek Golf, Glory Hole Sports, OARS, Cave & Mine Adventures, Mountain Pedalers, Motherlode Motor Sports and Bear Valley Resort. The rest came from the team’s working budget provided by the city.

The Angels Camp Branding Program is a long-range plan approved by the City Council in October 2008 that aims to develop Angels Camp as a key year-round destination for mountain sports enthusiasts. The plan builds on Angels Camp’s natural location as a major crossroad in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada and its gold mining and jumping frog history. The Brand Leadership Team was organized by the Mayor and consists of 25 residents and outdoor sports activity owners. Its meetings are open to the public and listed on the city web site www.angelscamp.gov.
