Community Comes to Together for Veteran's Memorial in Murphys!

Murphys, CA....In 2010 the Ebbetts Pass Veteran’s Memorial District commissioned a beautiful veteran’s memorial in Murphys Park on land owned by Calaveras County. Since then it has been enjoyed by many but was lacking an important element that many veterans need. It did not have good access for any one with a physical handicap......

Local Murphys contractor Lance Machler owner of Machler Construction offered his services to build a handicapped accessible walkway and Angels Camp contractor Micah Rolleri owner of Rolleri Construction offered to assist, both of them at no charge. Gary Loomis of Loomis Drywall also offered his labor at no charge for the cement pouring.

The work has taken several weeks for ground preparation, but today the forms were ready to pour and the walkway is in. George Reed Inc. supplied the cement and also refused payment once they saw that the job was for the veteran’s memorial. The dirt areas behind the Memorial Wall and around the memorial will be cleaned up and planted as weather permits.

Calaveras County always comes forward when a need is there and the Ebbetts Pass Veterans Memorial District wants everyone involved with this project to know how greatly appreciated they are.

If you have not seen the memorial, stop by when you are in Murphys. The bricks on the wall are $50 each and anyone can purchase one to honor a USA veteran, whether the veteran was from Calaveras County or another area. To get more information on purchasing a brick, you can call Debbie at 728-8180
