"About fallout . . ." A Humor Column~by The Copper Curmudgeon
“The sky is falling, the sky is falling!” cried Chicken Little who was not the brightest chick in the coop and in his world that was the result of a nut that fell from a tree overhead striking his obviously empty skull. But panic set in as he runs screaming to warn friends and neighbors of pending doom. Now as the story goes, Chicken Little spews his news of pending doom to Henny Penny, Lucky Ducky, Loosey Goosey and Turkey Lurkey who regurgitate this news and run screaming in fear with Chicken Little with no set plan . . .
who do they happen upon but Foxy Loxy that offers them sanctuary in the nice warm cave . . . his mouth. Fortunately they are saved by the sneeze of Foxy Loxy allowing them to run to freedom. No plan . . .
So my point? We know these characters and they live amongst us . . . the Chicken Little folks are on TV because we all know that’s what they do so they are to be pitied but what about the others that digest the news and then regurgitate this obviously wrong information as the “experts” they are supposed to be?
Japan was hit by a magnitude 9.0 earthquake . . . we have all seen the TV reports and listened to the “talking heads” tell of the devastation and human suffering now happening throughout all of the Japanese continent. The pictures show the results of the nuclear power plants as they border on meltdown and the environmentalists jump up and scream, “See . . . this is what we told you would happen with nuclear power!” Chicken Little . . . no plan.
It’s a natural disaster of which Japan has not seen in the 140 years of recorded seismology . . . never has there been this type of quake since I have been around and since my kids say I’m as old as dirt that is a while . . . and this quake has done so much damage so absolutely.
So where are Penny, Ducky, Goosey and Turkey? They are all running to the local markets to buy up all the sodium iodide tablets to fend off the nuclear fallout and radiation affecting their thyroids that is coming our way . . . which is NOT coming our way but they are taking no chances. No plan . . .
So they take these tablets . . . like entering the Fox’s mouth . . . without a doctor’s care or instructions and there are side effects . . . see my point? And all because of fear and no plan . . . just the fact that experts are yelling the sky is falling . . . why? Because its news folks and scary news sells TV time then raises the points on the race to get viewers and sells commercials.
I know not funny and this is a humor column . . . well you are seeing the curmudgeon for what he is today. Sick to death of the people that regurgitate this stupidity, and I am praying for the people in Japan plus our search teams, military support and health workers that are heading that way as I write . . .
The people in Japan have been hit by a natural disaster. They did not ask for or expect this to happen last week. They were prepared for earthquakes and tsunamis but they were overwhelmed . . . let’s not make it worse by spewing the words, “The sky is falling” . . . these people have enough problems without our panic too because the sky is not falling . . .
I know . . . just sit here and be quiet . . .
