Calaveras County Will be Center of Cycling World on May 17th ~By John Hamilton
Valley Springs, CA...On May 17th Stage 3 of the Amgen Tour which runs from - Auburn to Modesto will have Calaveras County become the center of the cycling world for about an hour. Hundreds of the best cyclists in the world will come charging down Comanche Parkway then proceed down Burson Road and fly down Milton Road on their way to Oakdale.....
If you want to catch a glimpse of the action you can line the roads as they come flying through. Since this will be a fast, fairly flat stage you will see some of the highest sustained speeds on the tour. The teams and the peleton will be drafting, and jockeying for position in the quest to put their teams stars in a position to win.
Californian Levi Leipheimer and his Radio Shack team will pass through Calaveras on their quest to put Levi at the top of the podium for the fourth time. 19 teams are scheduled to compete in this year's tour. The Amgen Tour gives American riders the chance to showcase their skills on their home soil. Many of these same riders and teams will be competing in the Tour de France this summer.
If you haven't seen a world class cycling race in person it is an impressive site. To see the tightly packed peleton flying by at over 30 mph is an experience you won't forget. It is an honor for the tour to pass through Calaveras County even if only for part of a stage.

The year's tour starts in Lake Tahoe on Sunday May 15th and ends in Southern California.
