Letter to the Editor~by CUEA Executive Board
Open Invitation to the Public from the Calaveras Unified Educators’ Association. The Calaveras Unified Educators’ Association (CUEA) is extremely concerned with the deep cuts to education for our local students. We are asking parents and community members to take a more active role in influencing the scope of those cuts for the 2011-2012 school year by attending Calaveras Unified School District (CUSD) Board Meetings for the remainder of this school year......
Regular Board Meetings
1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the Month
CUSD District Office—3304 Highway 12, Valley Springs—6:00 pm
April 5 & 19
May 3 & 17
June 14 & 28 (summer dates)
CUEA and CUSD both affirm that education is a partnership of parents/guardians, staff, students and the community.
CUSD students may be facing the following changes for the 2011-2012 school year:
1. Loss of eight or more teaching staff
• This will increase class size in K-6 to 30:1. Realistically, some classes will be 34:1.
2. Reduction in the scope of programs at small schools
• Loss of one teacher in the Transition Alternative Education Program
• Rail Road Flat Elementary will be grades 3-6 only, and the K-2 students will be bused to West Point Elementary
• Gold Strike Alternative High School will lose one teacher
3. Other district-wide programs facing possible reductions: music, athletics and intervention
4. An additional $1 million in district-wide cuts: slated for the 2012-2013 school year
These are unprecedented times in California Education. Please help safeguard education for our CUSD students.
