Home Arts on the Move!
Frogtown, USA.....Excitement is being generated by many clubs and organizations who are entering the Home Arts divisions at the Fair. Among the quilting guilds participating are the “Quilts of Honor” of Valley Springs, Loose Threads of Valley Springs, and Elkhorn Quilters of Angels Camp. This year quilts will be hung and judged using a “white glove”. ......

Thursday May 19, Regina Cole who is a professional seamstress will be assisting children with a “Make and Take” sewing and craft project. On Friday, May 20 there will be knitting demonstrations and workshops. On Saturday, May 21 fairgoers can meet the women behind the “Quilts of Honor”. Patrons will have the opportunity to signs quilt squares. The squares will eventually become quilts for our soldiers who receive a purple heart or have served multiple deployments. The guild has given 1400 plus quilts to our country’s service men and woman and has also visited Walter Reed Hospital in Washington DC to give the comfort of a quilt to soldiers recovering there.
The quilting guilds will be on hand to answer questions and to make sure the quilts are handled with the upmost care. You can find these amazing quilts in the Becky Thatcher Building during the 2011 Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee, May 19-22, “Pirates of the Carrots and Beans”.
