Updates on "Town Hall" meetings in Copperopolis and Rancho Calaveras~by Darren Spellman
Copperopolis, CA......"Discussion in Copper centered predominantly around FEMA flood mapping issues and time frames for repair of O'Byrns Ferry bridge. There was discussion about the Copper library and an update on possibilities that exist for what appears to be a financial squeeze in the works. A few questions about the possibility of new development starting again in Copper was also a topic of discussion as there has been a small amount of surveying and talk of home building starts next year this time if the economy picks up......
Rancho Calaveras: Discussion in Rancho started with FEMA flood mapping issues but took a turn towards a frank conversation about inequities in taxpayer funded services in Rancho which has more population than any town in the county including Angels Camp. According to census numbers 1 in 4 county residents live within 7 miles of the 12/26 intersection. This seems to constitute a second library in addition to the Valley Springs library and attendees of the Town Hall seemed to agree it is logical to pursue a branch library in Rancho that would work in tandem with the upcoming "Safe routes to School" project that will utilize the same site and could accommodate a small branch library.
