The Calaveras County Fair Wine Judging Results are In!
Frogtown, USA...The Calaveras County Wine Judging is one of the big events that lead up the 2011 Fair and Frog Jump that runs or hops from May 19th - 22nd this year. One of the central attractions is the Wine Pavilion run by the Calaveras Winegrape Alliance. The Wine Pavilion will prominently feature all of the award winners and more from the wine completion. It has really been great to watch Calaveras County mature as a wine lovers destination for visitors from all over the world. The winners featured many local wineries and are enclosed...
Some of the winners are... Lavender Ridge wone big for their 2009 Roussanne which won Double Gold and Best of Show for Calaveras Wines. Chatom Vineyards took Gold for their 2009 Semillon, Twisted Oak for their 2010 Viognier, Gray for thier 2010 Vergelho, Sierra Vista for their 2010 Verdelho, Sierra Vista also took Gold in the Sauvignon Blanc class, Metate Hill took Gold for their 2009 Albarino, Twisted Oak's 2010 Rhone White Blend took Gold,
For Sangiovese it was Splash Down 2008 in the top spot!
In Merlot Charles Mitchell's 2008 and Splash Down 2008 were Golden.
For Amador County Zinfandel Paul's 2008 Shenandoah was a Double Gold winner. Taking Gold were Renwood's 2008 Gran Pere, Sobon's 2008 Fiddletown.
In Calaveras Zinfandel Chatom took Gold Again.
Zinfandel Other Regions Macchia Linsteadt 2009 and Macchia Grand Pere 2009 both took Gold with the Lindsteadt as the Zin Shoot Out Winner.
In Pimitivo Sobon's 2009 was Golden.
Newsome Harlow took a big Double Gold for their 2008 Meritage.
In Tempranilla Metate Hill and Frogs Tooth took Gold for their 2008's.
In Syrah Millaire was Double Golden for their 2007 Millaire. Also in Syrah. Jeff Runquist's 2009 was not only Golden but took Best of Show in Syrah.
Newsome Harlow was Golden also for their 2008 Petite Sirah. Jeff Runquist also took Sirah Gold as did Hatcher.
For the Barbera's La Folia's 2008 was Double Gold and tied for Best of Show in the Reds. Shenandoah's 2008 was Golden, Jeff Runquist's 2009 was also Gold and tied for Best of Show Red.
Also in Reds Gianelli Dolcetto 2008 took Gold as did Convergence's "Italian Job",
Frog's Tooth earned Gold for their Tawny Port and Hatcher's 2007 Vintage Port was Double Golden and Crowned Best of the Dessert Wines.
