Calaveras County Junior Livestock Auction Earns Almost $314,000.00!

Angels Camp CA....The Calaveras County Junior Livestock Auction held on May 22, 2011, part of the annual Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee was a huge success. This annual event, earned $313,430.13 by young Calaveras county food producers. Three hundred young people participated in the Junior Livestock Auction. ....




The Supreme Champion Exhibitors were Devon Burton-Van Lieshout who raised Market Goats and Market Turkeys and Carson Atkinson who raised Market Lambs. The Supreme Champion Meat Birds (chickens) were raised by Brad Pappageorge and the Supreme Champion Single Broiler (chicken) was raised by Kellie Olsen. Taylor Westberg raised the Supreme Champion beef and Paxton Fassbender raised the Supreme Champion Rabbit Meat Pen. The Supreme Champion Hog was raised by TJ Tower and the Supreme Champion Single Market Fryer was raised by Renee Cardoza.
This year the Fair placed an emphasis on animals that were born in Calaveras County. County Bred animals were identified with a special green “Calaveras Grown” eartag sponsored by the Calaveras Cattlemen’s Association. The Calaveras County Bred Champions were Devon Burton-Van Lieshout, producer Burton-Van Lieshout-Goats, Krystin Peirano, producer Sullivan Club Lambs, Shannon Tower, producer Tower Ranch-Beef and Brock Rizzo, producer Westberg Brothers – Swine.

In addition to the Livestock Auction the Fair held the second annual Ag Mechanics-Industrial Arts Auction. Over $4,000 was earned by young craftsmen. The Fair also awarded 15 scholarships through various fair related programs. The said scholarships totaled $15,000. The Fair is grateful to our community of Auction Buyers, Sponsors and Donors who make these worthwhile programs possible.
