different host families which were selected by Debbie in the Murphys area. They are here to experience "American Family Life & Culture." Monday - Friday the students attend "school" with Debbie who shares and compares 5 specific areas with the students including Public Service Agencies, Health, Education, American Family and Volunteerism in America. They experience related facilities in those areas and then return to their Academic Center to compare the American and Chinese Cultures. The Murphys Historic School House is their Academic Center because Debbie felt it would be the perfect place to teach the guests about Murphys and it's history. The students feel honored to be able to attend "school" in the building which is the oldest school house west of the Mississippi River still used for Educational Purposes. Other outings include day trips to San Francisco and UC Berkeley, Moaning Caverns, and Yosemite National Park. Of course they love just interacting and being a part of their "American Families". So far, they just can't believe how warm and friendly the people in Murphys area. They commented that local people seem interested in why they are hear and come up and introduce themselves and shake their hands and it makes them feel very special and good about our country. The program that is sponsoring them is the Educational Resource Development Program or ERDT/SHARE!
