Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee Hopping Into The Future. ~By John Hamilton

Frogtown, CA...It's transition time for Calaveras County Fair and Frog Jumping Jubilee. At tonights meeting of The Ad Hoc Advisory Committee, suggestions were made on the future structure of Fair and Frog Jump is recommending that the current “Friends of the Fair” organizations 501c3 be modified into the container that adds additional functionality of Operations and Licensing to it's fundraising activities. The “Friends of the Fair” would become the defacto operational entity for the new fair assuming the respective Boards of the FOF and the DAA agree to the changes...

The path may still prove to have a few pebbles and rocks to work around but the die is cast for the changes to ultimately take place. Retiring Fair Ceo Ray Malerbi said that our fair is the first in the state to pursue this path but many more will likely follow.

We will be following upcoming meetings of both the Friends of the Fair and the Fair Board to see how the progress is coming along. Depending on the timing and progress of the new organization the existing fair board may need to remain in place for the 2012 Fair to ensure operational integrity.

At the end of the meeting Mindi Bach gave an update on the new Frogtown’s new LEAP campaign. LEAP (Let Every American Participate) is a frog jockey campaign aimed to allow all Americans to reconnect with Mark Twain’s famed jumping frog celebration by “hiring” local frog jockeys to jump the amphibians during the 2012 fair.

People across the world can visit the Frogtown website: www.frogtown.org to sign up for their own personal frog jockey. Frog Jockeys are school-aged youth throughout Calaveras County who will be professionally trained by the Frog Jump Committee to jump frogs on behalf of the entrant. Online entrants will be able to choose a name for their frog and select which cute little frog jockey they want to use, as well as direct their jockey on how to “handle” their frogs when persuading them to out-jump all the other amphibians of 2012.

Coming fresh off their visit to New York and the Today Show our local Frog Jump Commitee will be traveling to Sacramento this Friday where they will be LEAPing on KCRA and KQCA's morning program.

The current staff and community members are keeping their promotional and support plans for the Fair and Frog Jump rolling forward even in times of flux for the organization.
