The Mother Lode Friends of Music Announces Competition
The Mother Lode Friends of Music, the regional organization of classical music, has announced the dates of its sixtrh biennial competition for young musicians. The audition, opened to qualified young musicans through high school, will take place on Sunday, March 25, 2012 at the Sutter Creek Theater in Sutter Creek....
The competition is open to all young musicians pursuing instruction in all instruments of the classical music repertoire and voice and who live in El Dorado, Amador, Calaveras or Tuolumne counties. Youngsters below the age of 13 will be admitted to the junior division ; those over 13 through high school will be admitted to the senior division. A separate division is open to two or more young musicians of any age through high school performing together as a duo or small ensemble.
All those admitted to the auditions perform before a distinguished panel of professional musicians and teachers residing outside of the foothills area. Previous jury presidents have included Peter Jaffe, conductor of the Stockton Symphony, and Andrei Gorbatenko, conductor of the San Francisco Academy Orchestra. All those auditioning receive written evaluations of the performance by the jury members.
The winners will perform in a public concert at the Church of the Nazarene in Sutter Creek on Sunday, May 6, 2012.
Previous winners of the competition have gone to advanced study in some of the nation’s leading conservatories and schools of music and have been invited to perform as soloist with regional orchestras.
The competition is supported by grants from the Amador Community Foundation and the Sonora-Area Foundation.
The deadline for applications is Friday, February 24, 2012. For application forms and a complete set of rules, consult the Friends of Music web site at www.mlfm.org or call 209-293-4227.
