Bret Harte Varsity Wrestlers Take Home Third Place Team Trophy!
Saturday, January 21, 2012, seven varsity wrestlers from Bret Harte
competed at the Jason White Memorial Tournament at Lindhurst High School.
Three of the seven wrestlers took Gold Medals. Caleb Storey (106) made it to the finals with a pin and a technical fall win. Caleb had a strong finish to his day as he beat Isaac Blackburn from Del Oro 6-0 to take the 1st place medal...
Giovanni Murillo (138) had a great day with 3 pins getting him to the finals
against Jacob Numble from Vacaville. Giovanni won with a 6-0 decision to win the
1st place medal.
Senior Tanner Sherrow (160) had a great day also with two wins that were
by pins going into the finals, where he pinned Kalend Hastey from Wheatland, to give him a 1st place finish for the medal.
Luke Brewer (182) had two pins and one loss going into the finals. Luke
pinned Jordan Davis from River Valley to secure the 3rd place medal.
Aaron Richey, had two wins, one with a pin and a loss to put him in the
medal round. Aaron battled a close match with a loss of 8-9 to Wyatt Moreno of
Amador. Moreno and Richey will meet again in the MLL finals, this will be a match
to watch. Richey ended the tournament with a 4th place medal.
Lyford Morris (122) started off strong with a pin and another win. With a
loss in his next match, Lyford would go to the finals where a loss in the final match would give him a 5th place medal.
Justin Barnes (145) started off with a loss in the 1st match putting him in the
battle to come back with three wins to end with a pin in the consolation winning
match.
Together the team of only 7 took home the 3rd place trophy, with 16 teams
competing this was an excellent day for the young Bret Harte Varsity Wrestling
Team, led by Senior Tanner Sherrow
