Robert (Bob) Edmund Anderson 1924-2012

San Andreas, CA...Robert (Bob) Edmund Anderson, age 87 of Prestige Senior Living Center, Manteca, CA and formerly of Santa Nella, CA passed Thursday 1/26/12 at the San Andreas Convalescent Hospital due to complications of surgery to correct abdominal bleeding...

Bob was born April 15, 1924 in Gilroy, CA to the Parents of Albert and Thelma Anderson. Al and Thelma had two children: Bob and his sister Shirley who has preceded him in death. Bob grew up in east San Jose on the Guthrie Ranch with his step father ("Doc"), mom, and sister.

Bob had a great love of flying, scuba diving, camping, the outdoors, electronics, mechanics, astronomy, computers and technology in general. He quit high school to join the Navy and fight for his country in WWII. Bob became a radioman and sailor and was stationed on the USS South Dakota. After the Navy, Bob worked to repair TVs then later went to work for the phone company where he started as a telephone pole lineman and later finished high school.

Later, Bob started his own telephone equipment repair and manufacturing business. His operation originated in Mountain View, CA and later moved to Sonora, CA which he continued to operate until he retired. During that time, Bob invented a device called the Open Locator which would send an electric signal down a telephone line to locate where the line had an open circuit, allowing that section to be located and repaired. One of the great disappointments in his life was that even though Bob had patented his invention, Hewlett Packard stole his idea and started their own manufacturing and sales of the device.

Second only to his love for technology was Bob's sense of humor and love for people. Bob would be right there with a humorous quip or comeback even up to the final days of his life. He was almost always a positive and upbeat person to talk with. During his recent stay in the hospital for a broken hip surgery, Bob could be found rolling up and down the halls of the rehab facility in his wheelchair encouraging others and being a positive influence on their recovery.

Bob is survived by three sons: Randy, Bill and Ken; six grandchildren: Shelly, Bob, Joy, Chris, Casey and Kimberly; and five great grandchildren: Arabella, Christopher, Mason, Beckham and Buster.

Memorial to be held at the home of Bill Anderson on Saturday 2/4/12 in Valley Springs, CA
