SAN ANDREAS, CA – February 9th, 2012– Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital (MTSJH) has selected four Calaveras County nonprofit organizations to receive Dignity Health Community Grants for 2011. “On behalf of Dignity Health, we are pleased to award more than $22,000 in community grants this year,” said Patti Monczewski, Interim Hospital President. “Each organization provides invaluable services to the community ranging from seniors to youth.”...
This year’s honorees include:

The Dignity Health Community Grants Program is designed to support nonprofits that collaborate to address community health needs, particularly those that focus on underserved populations. The Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital’s Executive Leadership Team carefully evaluated the programs to determine which programs best address the unmet health needs as revealed in Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Community Needs Assessment. Eleven local nonprofit organizations submitted proposals, requesting a total of $80,000.
“Being a Calaveras resident as well as Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital Corporate Board Chair and Chief of the Medical Staff, I am proud to support these outstanding community organizations that the MTSJH six-member Executive team reviewed and selected these grant proposals,” said Dr. William Griffin, M.D.
“Awarding the grants to our community partners is something the entire Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital team feels good about,” commented Larry Cornish, V.P. Ancillary Services, who serves on the Executive Leadership team that evaluated grants.
“The agencies being recognized are interwoven,” remarked Lisa McInturf, Toyon Middle School principal. “We share a commitment to helping those in need that reaches many in our community. Together, we are all connected.”
The hospital honored grant recipients at an awards luncheon held February 9, 2012. To date, more than $288,000 has been awarded to Calaveras organizations by the Dignity Health Community Grants Program.
Each grant program candidate must submit a letter of intent and a full proposal by the deadline in order to be considered.
