Destination Angels Camp Begins Work on Angels Camp Economic Development

Angels Camp, CA...At its first board of directors meeting, Destination Angels Camp Development Corporation, the newly formed all-volunteer economic development organization, elected its officers and set out its operating plans for the coming year. The new officers are Bob Trinchero, chairman, Tonja Peterson, vice chairman, Anne Forrest, president/CEO, Dixon Collins, treasurer, and Wrenae Rowe, secretary. These five along with three representatives from the City – Council Member Roger Neuman, City Administrator Michael McHatten, and Planning Director David Hanham – will make up the executive committee....

Destination Angels Camp (DAC) was formed earlier this year to continue the work already accomplished by its predecessor, the Brand Leadership Team, and to expand its focus to include attracting and retaining businesses throughout the entire city, rather than the BLT’s narrower focus on expanding tourism. DAC’s charter calls for it to work in a public-private partnership with the City of Angels to improve the business environment and attract new business, with an emphasis on strengthening the historic downtown as a fundamental part of the quality of life in Angels Camp.

At its first meeting the board adopted the slogan ‘Volunteers for a prosperous Angels Camp’ to reflect both its mission and its make-up.

According to the chairman Bob Trinchero: “DAC is now working on an overall economic development strategy as well as two specific action plans that can begin work almost immediately to help retain and attract new business to Angels Camp. We will soon be holding public meetings and workshops to enlist the community’s ideas and comments. We’ll also have a booth at the Fair and will be soliciting the public’s ideas there as well.

“We are very conscious,” Trinchero continued, “of the need to keep the great quality of life and the historic feel of Angels Camp, while at the same time helping to create more and better jobs and business opportunities for the residents and the businesses of the greater Angels Camp area. We’re also committed to continuing to build Angels Camp as a great destination for visitors by focusing on becoming The base camp for mountain sports.”

One of the first tasks for the new DAC board will be fundraising. As a non-profit organization working with the City, DAC expects to apply for a number of grants that support community and economic development activities and that are more available to a public-private partnership.

DAC has a new Angels Camp marketing brochure due out in May and will also be building on the accomplishments of the BLT, which include the free Wi-Fi Hotspot now expanding up Main Street from downtown Angels, the colorful pole banners depicting Angels Camp as the base camp for mountain sports, the www.angelscampfun.com web site to help visitors plan trips to the area, and the historically designed bike racks. It is working with the City to develop a ‘Doing Business in Angels Camp’ guide and a ‘Holding an Event in Angels Camp’ guide, both of which will be available in print and online.

Destination Angels Camp Development Corporation is a non-profit, public-private partnership set up to build a prosperous Angels Camp though economic development programs to retain and attract businesses that benefit Angels Camp residents, businesses and visitors. It has a special emphasis on strengthening the historic downtown as a critical element in the life of the community and in becoming the base camp for Sierra mountain sports. Its all-volunteer board consists of local business owners and executives, realtors, retailers, sports providers, residents and City government officials. DAC can be reached at 209-736-0088
