Railtown 1897 State Historic Park Seeking Volunteers

Jamestown, CA...Railtown 1897 State Historic Park is looking for new volunteers interested in greeting visitors and telling the Railtown story, either as Tour Guides, Roundhouse Hosts or Car Hosts on board weekend excursion trains rides. Potential volunteers must agree to wear a uniform or period costume, and have a pleasant manner interacting with park visitors. Prior experience with trains or public service is not required....

Interpretive workshops will be held on Mondays, July 30th, August 6th and August 13th.

If you enjoy meeting people from all over the world, and sharing your enthusiasm of history and the Tuolumne County area, you will love this job.

Benefits to volunteering at Railtown 1897 State Historic Park include; membership in the California State Railroad Museum Foundation, free entrance and train rides at Railtown and the California State Railroad Museum, a variety of social activities, interesting training opportunities and guest speakers, discounts at the Depot Store, and an annual volunteer recognition dinner.

Volunteer Applications are available online at www.railtown1897.org For other ways to get involved, email park staff at railtownnews@parks.ca.gov, or call 209-984-4408.

Operated by California State Parks with assistance from the nonprofit California State Railroad Museum Foundation, Railtown 1897 State Historic Park offers year-round tours plus train rides weekends April-October (selected dates only November-December). Known as “The Movie Railroad,” the Park and its trains have been featured in hundreds of feature films, TV shows, and commercials. The Park is located at the corner of Fifth and Reservoir in Jamestown, reached by highways 49/108. Open Thursday-Monday (Closed Tuesdays & Wednesdays), except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day, the Park’s operating hours vary by season: April-October, 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; November-March, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. For more information, call Railtown 1897 State Historic Park at (209) 984-3953, or visit our Web site at www.railtown1897.org.
