Thanks once a gain to the great response of all involved. Quick decisive action.

Was this fire on private or USFS land?. Was there active logging vicinity in the area or camping - anyone know? certainly wasn't lightning and certainly a campfire would be usually evident. Who knows these answers?

Just a rumor, but someone heard dirt bikes in the vicinity prior to the fire...

What I couldn't understand was the directions given the crews to find the fire. I listened on the scanner. The dispatcher seemed to be sending them on the wrong route to access the fire. It seemed to be a real mess trying to get to the location, even though it should have been easy.

How could they say "INCIDENT CLOSED 1704" when trucks were still trying to find the fire at 1800 (6p.m.)?

Sorry folks wasnt easy, dispatchers cant see the fire. It was off a trail used by jeeps, dirt bikes. Only local knowledge got local and fed in first. 404s crew made handy work of line construction. Lay off dispatch, its the hardest job in the fire service.

I agree...for the 7 years we have been following fires in our area we are always impressed by the calm, cool and collected dispatch work. They do their best with imperfect information and fluid situations. Hats off to the folks at the TCU Command Center
