Wines of the World August 9th, 2012 Held at The Garden, in Murphys

Murphys (July 24, 2012)—The Calaveras Winegrape Alliance will host its monthly Wines of the World, Thursday, August 9 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at The Garden, 577 Algiers Street, Murphys. Steve and Carolyn Gonzales host us on their beautiful property. Chloe Respress, Prospect 772 and Sara Teeter, Executive Director for the Calaveras Winegrape Alliance, will talk on the various ways to age and ferment wine...

"From New Zealand, to Rhone, to Napa, we are taking you on a tour of the world. Our aim is to show how certain types of oak, or stainless steal effect the flavor and texture of a wine” Teeter said. “We'll discuss stylistic changes, how some wines show off just the fruit while others lean toward a more velvety feel, despite being the same varietal. We even have a few wines that were aged in cement! Respress’s passion and experience will really shine through on this one, as she has such a wealth of knowledge on this topic,” explained Teeter. “This is a great opportunity to expand your wine knowledge while having an interactive, fun time, outside!”

Respress concluded, “It’s easy to know if you like a wine. It is much more interesting to understand how the process with which its made, contributes to what you enjoy.”

Parking for the event is located across the street at the Black Bart play House public parking area. The Garden in Murphys is an ideal venue as it is centrally located in Murphys in the James Ink House, built in 1860.

Cost for the event is $15 for CWA members and $25 for non-members. Attendance is open to the public, and reservations are not required.
