TWO ALL AROUND SUPERIORS FOR BULLFROG VARSITY CHEER

The Bret Harte Varsity and JV Cheer Squads came home with a bundle of honors awarded to them at the 2012 United Spirit Association Summer Camp at UC Santa Cruz. Topping the honors for the day were two All-Around Superior Awards presented to both the Varsity Song and the Varsity Cheer Squads. “The squad worked very hard in their preparations for camp and during camp to earn these awards,” said head coach Jennifer Truman. “I am so proud of them and not just for these awards, but for all the awards they’ve brought home.”..

Top row L-R: Valarie Deip, Raevyn Jones, Amanda Benge, Alyssa Avalos, Julie Weist Zoie Woishnis, Kacy Adams, Marissa Landavazo, Veronica Campos, Katie Reed, Chris Perez, Shania McKean, Nicole Glass. Middle Row (on knees) L-R: Quinn Strahl, Leslie Johnson, Riley Klassen, Nicole Huddy, Amanda Sheehan, Jessy Woodward, Jamie Gehrmann, Kassidi James, Madison Wilson, Sarah Baxter Front Row (sitting) L-R: McKensey Middleton, Veronica Ehret, Gracie Meeks

Seniors Katie Reed, varsity cheer and Veronica Ehret, varsity song were named All-Americans. Along with this award comes an opportunity to perform in London on New Years Day. Reed is a four-year varsity cheerleader with years of pre-high school experience that has led her to the top. And even though Ehret is a fist year cheerleader she has had years of dance experience that she was able to rely to earn this award.

“Both of these girls are talented cheerleaders,” stated Truman. “They both have individual strengths and years of experience in their respective areas that have earned them their All-American status.”

Five of the Bullfrogs were awarded the Pin-it-Forward Award which was only awarded to a total of 10 cheerleaders in the entire camp of 200. The Pin-it-Forward award is an award given by both judges and campers to those cheerleaders who were deemed all around, for their talent, spirit, and sportsmanship. Receiving the award were varsity members: Seniors Chris Perez and Marissa Landavazo, Juniors Nicole Glass and Leslie Johnson and JV member McKensey Middleton.

“Even though I am proud of all the honors my squads came home with, I believe this is the award I am proudest of,” said Truman. “To be recognized by both judges and fellow participants from other schools -- in all aspect of cheer, not just how you perform, but in spirit and sportsmanship is the greatest honor.”

The last award of the day was the top honor awarded by the United Spirit Association judges and staff – the all around spirit award. This honor is awarded to the squad that demonstrated the most spirit and sportsmanship, the Bullfrogs brought home two. One awarded to the varsity cheer squad and the second to the varsity song squad.

“Even though USA awards the spirit award to specific squads, this award is actually for all 27 squad members who went to camp,” stated Truman. “They all earned this honor equally and they will be proudly displaying this award as well as the others at school.”

The JV squad was also recognized for their Dedication to Spirit.

Varsity Song earned three of three Superior Awards, Varsity Cheer earned two of three Superior Awards, and JV Cheer earned one of three Superior Awards.

The Bullfrogs will proudly be exhibiting their award winning performances this football season beginning with Bret Harte’s first home football game on Friday, August 24.
