2012 La Contenta Match Play Winners
The La Contenta Men’s Club recently completed their Championship Qualifier round and Match Play Competitions. The Qualifier was a low net competition for the field and an 8 man selection round for the scratch play Club Champion Flight. In the Championship round; Brandt Norried outlasted past Club Champion Jim Avansino one up after 21 holes and Tim Alleman had an easy time beating Graham Hogan 6 up with 7 to play to reach the Championship round. Brant outlasted runner up Tim Alleman in a scheduled 36 hole round that went the distance. After many lead changes during the head to head match, Norried was the winner and 2012 champion on the 36th hole, two holes up with none to play.
In the 18 hole net play President’s Flight bracket; Steve Miller (6) gave Alan Tousley (9) three stokes and managed to beat Tousley one up after 18 holes to earn his spot in the Directors cup finals. His competition was Jim Tibbens (12). Tibbens earned his final play by beating Al Liberato (9) two holes up with only one to play. The Presidents Flight went to the wire with new Directors Flight winner Miller beating Tibbens on the last hole one up.
The Secretary’s Flight final consisted of players Bob Schriver (14) and Jim Montgomery (15). Bob Schriver beat Tom Suarez (16) on the 15th hole, 4 up and 3 to play to reach the final. Monty went to the 16th hole to earn the honor, 4 up and 2 to play over Jim Huckaby (17). Another well matched final for this competition went to the 18th hole with Bob Schriver declared the winner over Monty one up.
The Directors Club Championship round pitted the recently retired local fire Chief Mike Siligo (18) against Gabe Karam (24). Chief Mike had to beat Steve Mertens (20) in 19 holes to reach the final. Gabe Karam beat Harold Gianelli 3 and 2. The Director’s Flight champion is Mike Siligo, a winner on the 16th green 3 up with 2 to play.
Each champion ($150) and runner up ($90) will receive their awards at the La Contenta Event Center following the September 15th tournament. Monetary awards are awarded in pro shop credit.
The low net qualifier tournament was won by Graham Hogan (14) with a net 61, tied for second with net 67’s were Bill Bray(7), Larry Walters (9), Brandt Norried (10), Jim Montgomery (15) and newcomer Bill Perley (16). $555 of pro shop credit was distributed to the top ten places.
