Best Dancers Talia Leyva & Tim Smith
Talia Leyva
The Sierra Foothills have been the second home for Talia's weekend adventures and family festivities for over 30 years. Whether its swimming in the lake, hiking the hills or enjoying view, Talia fell in love with the foothills years ago and escapes the bay area hustle and bustle for weekends of mountain living.
Talia works in event production and although she is behind the scenes producing live segments, it's always been her passion to be in the spot light. A former high school and college cheerleader and thespian, Talia loves the stage.
Joining this year's Dancing with the Sierra All Stars is a great adventure, it's a chance to support the community, get to know your neighbors and tear up the dance floor with her energetic partner Tim Smith.
Time to BOOGIE for a good cause!
Tim Smith
Timothy Lee Smith (aka the Groovy Garden Guy, Sexy Tim, and Happy Timmy,) grew up in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan. He moved to San Francisco in 1982 where he supported many important social causes, made art, and got his degree in Art and Social Change at New College.
Tim and his wife, Kathryn Eustis, and their son and daughter moved to Murphys in 2001 after many years of visiting the area while Kathryn was publicist for Columbia Actors' Repertory Theater. Tim created the school and community garden at Michelson Elementary School, where he has become known as Mr. Tim, the Groovy Garden Guy. He coordinated the Gifted and Talented Education program at Michelson Elementary for several years, teaches art in Vallecito Union School District, and has been an Artist in Residence in schools in both Calaveras and Tuolumne counties. He worked as outreach specialist for teen health issues under a countywide Community Challenge Grant (hence the nickname Sex Tim) and coordinates Natural High Day each year at Calaveras River Academy.
While Tim passionately supports health and prevention programs in our community, his real calling to Dancing With the Sierra Stars is his reputation as a dancer (Happy Timmy.) His energy on the dance floor is boundless, and it was only a matter of time before someone suggested that he put it to good use. He enjoyed performing for several years with the Lumberjacks in the Calaveras Follies to support the Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program, and is very excited about this opportunity to support community health. Tim hopes to offer a fresh and vibrant performance that will impress even seasoned "Stars" attendees!
