High Tech Manufacturing Right Here in Murphys.
Murphys, CA...Local technology company Blastronix is much more than a computer repair, networking and IT shop. They are also a manufacturer of high-end PCI I/O cards with over 20 years of experience in designing RS 232 and RS 422/485 serial port cards. In our ongoing series to lure some of our Silicon Valley and Bay Area visitors to make the move to the Central Sierra and Mother Lode area we dusted off an interview we conducted in 2009. If you are watching or reading this back down in the Bay Area after your MLK Weekend Visit we want to say come back and come back ful time. We have great schools, wonderful quality of life and great communities. Our schools especially need your kids!! Between Calaveras and Tuolumne Counties our schools have lost several thousand students solely because many of our traditional middle class jobs were based on construction and development. We are starting to see a much needed wave of young bay area families moving here to raise their families. Please help us rebuild our middle class job sector, boost the enrollment at our great schools and improve your life at the same time. Enclosed is the rest of the text as run in 2009...

We had the pleasure to stop by and interview David Barnes and get a little more on the Blastronix story.
As many in the community search for economic development answers to bring additional jobs and revenue we have some great companies right here in our midst.
Blastronix manufactures and designs input and output controller cards that are used in some of the biggest news and video production studios in the world. A typical use is in a live news setting when they roll to footage or another camera it is one of Blastronix's cards that makes that happen.
They have become one of the leaders in their field while keeping their company here in the county. In the next few months they will even be installing new automated, pick and place, manufacturing equipment. We may have to stop by just to watch it work.
These cards are made right here in Murphys. Blastronix proves that you don't have to be in Silicon Valley to be successful. We have thought that companies like them are the prototypes of companies our area could attract in the future. They and their employees can take advantage of the lifestyle and recreation advantages of this area while still being close enough to airports and the Bay Area to make it all work.
Blastronix has also expanded into Repair and Maintenance of computers and networks. This side of their business has been growing by leaps and bounds. They provide quality service and support at very competitive prices. They have big plans for the future as well. One of the reasons they chose this building when they outgrew their old Glory Hole location is that there is fiber running right outside their front door for easy future bandwidth expansions. A.C. Barnes is heading up this division
It would be great if over the next few years Calaveras could be know as the place to bring you growing tech firm. For a rural county we have very good connectivity options and while we may lack the infrastructure for large scale manufacturing or industrial development we a perfect fit for smaller firms.

Middle class jobs are gone for one reason and one reason alone, it's called OBAMA!
I agree, we can definately lure middle-class and professional jobs here. Firms like Blastronix are exactly what we can support and attract. I have talked to a few small manufacturers in the Bay Area about moving their operation to the foothills and they seem truely interested. We will never have the pool of professionals enjoyed in Silicon Valley, but we do have a very attractive life style, beautful countryside, and a much lower overhead. Firms like Blastronix offer good jobs, a growing tax base, and a low impact.
I used to work with a guy who lived in Groveland and worked in Santa Clara. He had a small/cheap rental apt in Santa Clara that he stayed at during the week. This was a guy who was in biotech R&D. He had been an individual contributor and worked his way into mgmt. When it came time lay off some of his employees, he asked for an early retirement package and headed back to Groveland for good. That is just one example of those that work silicon valley because they have to and not because they want to. I believe there is a target audience for this.
Comments that art so uniformed as to blame Obama for losing "middle-class" jobs is one reason intelligent investors are wary of Calaveras. We need people with at least average intelligence to fill the jobs if they were offered.
