oh, there are far, far, more needy people in this community besides those who received a quilt last year. Hopefully the quilters are not part of the "if you don't work hard enough you don't deserve anything" mentality and will start helping the elderly and children in this community who cannot stay warm during the winter.

Sorry if this sounds dumb, but are there people in our community in need of blamkets to stay warm? If so, it seems we could launch an effort to round some up.

Ok...can we at least try and be positive. These people create these quilts as a labor of love. It is a valuable and wonderful service. How about we thank them and encourage them? We can all do something for our communities in different ways. This happens to be theirs. What is yours and we can post a piece on that as well.

yes, let's have this discussion. How would a community determine which "cause" needs support when it thinks of itself as such an awesome community? Are we saying we don't know who in our community is in need of warm blankets?
That is truly sad.
As the saying goes, "...the moral test of government is how that government treats those who are in the dawn of life, the children; those who are in the twilight of life, the elderly; those who are in the shadows of life; the sick, the needy and the handicapped. " ~ Last Speech of Hubert H. Humphrey
"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Ghandi
