Clark Robert Burton, DDS 1922 - 2013

Murphys, CA...Clark Robert Burton, DDS died Saturday, March 2, 2013. He was 90. Doctor Burton was born May 14, 1922 in Berkeley, CA and was raised in Concord, CA. A member of the first cub scout pack in the US, he went on to reach his Eagle Scout and Sea Scout. He studied chemistry at UC Berkeley (Cal). His ROTC group went to basic training and came back as army students living on the campus in army uniforms. He served in WWII as a navigator on the B-24 and later the B-29 for the Army Air Corp. When the war in Europe ended, he returned to UC Berkeley to complete his chemistry degree. Clark was vacationing at the Cal ski lodge when he met Carol Guild. They graduated and married in 1947. He was hired by Shell Chemical in Martinez, CA as a chemist where he worked for 7 years. Clark changed careers and attended UCSF and got his doctorate in dental surgery in 1958. He moved the family to Calaveras County to start his dental practice. The first location of his practice was in Altaville, and later moved to Murphys. Doctor Burton retired in 1986...





A fun-loving and good natured person, Clark was ready for any adventure. He enjoyed skiing, winemaking, bicycle touring, dancing, and many outdoor family activities. He was a charter member of the Bear Valley ski club and participated in many NASTAR ski races. Doctor Burton was a past president of the San Joaquin Dental Society and was a volunteer dentist in the Marshall Islands, Mexico and Nepal. He was predeceased by his son, Tom Burton and his brother, Willard Burton. He is survived by wife of 65 years, Carol Burton, daughters Nancy Burton and Laurie Corson (Brent) and son Jim Burton (Eva) and grandchildren Isis Whitehead and Christian Corson.


A memorial service will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, April 13, at the First Congregational Church in Murphys. Reception will follow at Murphys Diggins Clubhouse.
