Center for Wound Care Recognized for Excellence in Wound Healing

Sonora, CA... Sonora Regional Medical Center physicians, leaders, and staff will gather Thursday, April 11, at 2 p.m. at the Medical Center to celebrate receiving the Robert A. Warriner III, M.D., Center of Excellence award. The Center for Wound Care at Sonora Regional Medical Center earned this award by surpassing rigorous quality standards for two consecutive years. Festivities will include light refreshments and an award presentation from Healogics Inc., the nation's largest provider of advanced wound care services...

In 2012, the Center for Wound Care achieved a healing rate of 96 percent in 23 median days for chronic wounds, exceeding the quality standard of 91 percent in at least 30 median days. In addition, 93.4 percent of patients rated their overall experience at the Center as “excellent”, also exceeding the quality standard of 90 percent. The Center for Wound Care provided specialized treatment during 2,549 patient encounters in 2012, often preventing amputations and helping patients return to active lives.

Because of these excellent outcomes and patient satisfaction ratings, the Center for Wound Care earned this prestigious award and is being recognized by Healogics. The Center of Excellence award is named for Dr. Robert A. Warriner III, a pioneer in wound care and the former Chief Medical Officer for Healogics. The Center for Wound Care is a member of the Healogics network of over 500 centers with access to benchmarking data and experience of treating over two million chronic wounds.

Jeff Eller, Sonora Regional Medical Center president and CEO, commented on the award. “Healogics brings resources and expertise to our hospital's Center for Wound Care, enabling us to meet the increasing need for specialized wound care,” says Eller. “We are pleased to receive this award and proud to offer this quality service to our community."

“We’re honored,” says Eden Smith, MD, medical director at the Center for Wound Care. “It’s a privilege to be part of a great collaborative effort between the hospital and Healogics. Together, we are able to heal patients in our community and get them get back to living happy, healthy lives.”
