Sonora Regional Medical Center Embarking on Major Technology Upgrade

Sonora, CA... Sonora Regional Medical Center has been selected by parent organization Adventist Health as the pilot site for a major systems upgrade that will enhance outpatient medical records, billing, and case management systems. This initiative has been dubbed Project Intellicare 2.0 and is another step the Medical Center is taking to meet Meaningful Use, a section of the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act that provides financial incentives for the “meaningful use” of electronic health records by providers who accept Medicare and Medi-Cal. Adventist Health has partnered with Cerner Corporation, a software solutions provider, to integrate this and other systems upgrades....

Project Intellicare 2.0 has five components: a new billing and registration system, an electronic health records (EHR) system for all Sierra Physician Network clinics, a web portal for patient access to health records, an electronic physician transcription system, and specialized case management software. Work has already begun and the Medical Center is anticipated to go live with Project Intellicare 2.0 on September 4.
“Adventist Health corporate leadership has selected Sonora Regional Medical Center as the pilot site to launch this latest IT infrastructure and clinical software upgrade because of our solid operational track record. In addition, Adventist Health was interested in rolling out this suite of technologies in Sonora because of the breadth of medical services we provide in our community,” explains Jeff Eller, Sonora Regional Medical Center President and CEO. “We will establish full use of Project Intellicare 2.0 and all other Adventist Health hospitals and clinics will have a chance for representatives to visit Sonora and learn from our process of implementing these new computerized systems.”
Following Sonora Regional Medical Center’s launch in September, a rollout schedule has the remaining 18 Adventist Health hospitals and medical centers completing this system upgrade by the summer of 2014.
With this upgrade, all outpatient and inpatient data will be accessible across Adventist Health, enhancing patient safety and reducing the chances of medical errors. By incorporating an electronic health record (EHR), participating health care providers will have access to comprehensive health information across care settings. All Adventist Health participating physicians, specialists and hospitals can have access to patients’ most recent diagnoses, medications, allergies, immunizations, and other medical information. This will allow physicians to make better informed decisions. Patients will also have the opportunity to better manage their health with a web-portal for accessing health records, all in accordance with federal and state privacy and security requirements.
In preparation for Project Intellicare 2.0, the Medical Center will temporarily use the former Andy’s Home Center property at the corner of Mono Way and Greenley Road as a training center. Construction of the temporary training site has been funded by Adventist Health. This computer lab and classroom facility will provide space for over 300 end users to train on the various systems and programs of Project Intellicare 2.0. Sonora Regional Medical Center is currently developing plans for the future construction of an outpatient pavilion on the former Andy’s site and will announce more specific information as the project progresses.
