Community Turns Out for U.S. Army Sgt. Mathew William Maddox 1990 - 2013

Wallace, CA...This morning his community and home turned out to say goodbye as U.S. Army Sgt. Matthew William Maddox started on his last journey to Arlington National Cemetery where he will be laid to rest. The procession started at the San Andreas Memorial Chapel and went through Valley Springs and Wallace on Hwy 12 on it's way to Sacramento Airport. He died July 5th 2013. Born July 25th 1990, Matt lived in Wallace until he left for Army Basic Training in 2008. Matt attended Calaveras High School where he was active on the wrestling and track team. As a member of Boy Scout Troop 302 Matt attained the rank of Eagle Scout. As a high school senior Matt joined the Delayed Entry Program for the United States Army in August 2007. Upon graduation in June 2008 he signed his enlistment papers as a Fire Support Specialist. After completing Basic Training and AIT Matt went to Airborne school at Ft Benning Georgia. Upon graduation from Airborne Jump School he was assigned to the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, Vicenza ltaly. Deployed twice to Afghanistan, and due to separate from theArmy August 13, 2013 Matt was in the process of pursuing a career in law enforcement with his goal to become a California Highway Patrol Officer. Members of the Patriot Guard are escorting Sgt. Maddox as he makes his way to the Sacramento Airport.

Matthew is survived by his mother Suzy Maddox, father Mike Maddox and brother Mike Maddox Jr. Members of the 173rd ABCT will escort Sgt. Matthew William Maddox from the San Andreas Memorial Chapel at 8 a.m. July 26th 2013 to Arlington National Cemetery where he will be laid to rest on July 30th at 11 a.m. The Family wishes to thank the community for all the love and support that has been shown...
