Bringing Sparkle Back To The Mokelumne River With River Clean Up

Wallace, CA...East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) will hold its 7th Annual Camanche & Pardee Reservoirs and Mokelumne River Cleanup from 9:00 a.m. to noon on Saturday, September 21, 2013. Scores of volunteers have participated in this event in the past and have hauled away cigarette butts, broken bottles, refrigerators, and more...

“This event really brings our community together. We gain a sense of accomplishment and pride from working together and keeping our beautiful Mokelumne River clean,” says Lora Sparrowk, Ranger/Naturalist II at EBMUD. “We hope to attract at least 100 volunteers for a fun and worthwhile day at the river and reservoirs.” Organizers are hopeful for large numbers of volunteers because it’s such an enjoyable and rewarding activity. After the cleanup, Camanche Recreation Company sponsors a barbecue at Camanche South Shore for all participants.

The event is part of the Great Sierra River Cleanup which is taking place on rivers throughout the Sierra region which in turn is part of the California-wide Coastal Cleanup Day. “It’s the largest volunteer effort in the state,” says Sparrowk. “This is an event for the whole family. We’re encouraging school, church, and other groups to come and join us.”

Volunteers must pre-register to take part in this event. Register on our website at: http://www.ebmud.com/recreation/waterways-cleanup or contact Lora Sparrowk at (209) 772-8337 or lsparrow@ebmud.com for more information.
