Smooth Riding When You are Down In The Valley
Stanislaus County – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announced today the State Route 99 (SR-99) Resurfacing and Restoration Project is complete. The project was finished six months ahead of schedule and on budget.
The $90.2 million project resurfaced and repaired 25 miles of existing pavement on SR-99 in Stanislaus County from the San Joaquin County line to the Merced County line.
“We are pleased to deliver this project six months ahead of schedule,” said Amarjeet Benipal, Caltrans Acting District 10 Director, “This will keep goods and commerce running smoothly through the Central Valley for many years to come.”
Crews removed one third of the existing concrete roadway and replaced it with new concrete base and pavement, refurbished the other two thirds of the existing concrete roadway and overlayed it with asphalt and concrete. Caltrans upgraded the metal beam guardrails, removed and replaced the asphalt concrete shoulders, installed rumble strips, placed fog seal, re-striped the roadway and replaced the pavement markers on the 25-mile stretch of highway.
Caltrans would like to thank motorists for their cooperation during this project which included overnight closures of lanes and on and off-ramps on SR-99 from the San Joaquin County line to the Merced County line for several months.
