Murphys Ranchers Make Large Donation of Local Ranch Raised Beef to the Food Bank
San Andreas, CA...November 20, 2013 — John and Michelle Rugo of Murphys have been donating ranch raised beef to the Food Bank over the past years. They recently read an article about food needs in Calaveras County and decided to do something about it. They brought in 160 pounds of fresh hamburger and steaks to the Food Bank. They have been long-time supporters of many organizations in the community and Michelle was on the initial Food Bank Community Garden Committee. “We are so grateful for the donation,” said Jeannie Hayward, Food Bank director. “We don’t get a lot of fresh meat because it is so expensive to purchase. We just got green and red bell peppers in – so we will be handing out the hamburger and peppers with a stuffed pepper recipe.”

Both John and Michelle said they would like to see other ranchers in the community consider donating in this way. The Food Bank has many local donors – farmers, gardeners and others who bring in food on a regular basis. “We are grateful to our community for their very generous donations and thank the Rugo’s for their donation of fresh ranch raised beef. This will make a big difference to many families who are struggling to make ends meet.” said Jeannie Hayward.
