Kim Holl Featured Artist At Hovey Tasting Room in November

Murphys, Nov. 23, 2013 – The acclaimed plein air paintings of Kim Holl will be showcased the month of November at Hovey Winery Tasting Room, 350 A Main St., Murphys. An artist’s reception in her honor will be held Sunday, Dec. 15 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. with complimentary appetizers. During this time wine is available at a discounted fee of $5 per glass...

Holl is a plein air painter because she enjoys the challenges of painting outside on location. A continuous change in the elements of light and shadow created by the passage of time is reflected in her paintings, as well as a specific motif chosen for that session. In her work the environment serves as an inspiration rather than exact recording of nature.

“When I paint, I feel I am no longer an observer of a scene, but rather I’ve become part of that scene,” she explained. “Painting forces me to understand the details of the environment rather than simply viewing nature. While working I enjoy studying the light, shadows, color relationships, contrasts and the subtle tones.”

“One thing I love about Kim’s art is the intense texture of her paintings,” said Jan Hovey, co-owner. “The message is also vividly conveyed with incredible detail. Her work is exemplary!”

“We’ve been so honored to continue our monthly featured artist series, and we’ve received wonderful feedback from both locals and visitors,” she added. “It’s just one way we can support the arts, while keeping the tasting room fresh with new art every month.”

Hovey Tasting Room is open daily from noon to 5:30 p.m. and continues to be open later Friday and Saturday evenings until 7 p.m. for wine by the glass. During these times cheese plates catered by Skye Ruggieri are also available for $12 featuring three different cheeses, sourdough slices, fresh fruit, quince paste and crackers.
