Muprhys, CA...At Black Sheep we are offering a six pack of red wines for $50 until November 30th! It is two bottles each of our Cinsault, Merlot and California Cabernet. About Milliaire Winery
Our History
Milliaire Winery is a small family owned winery founded by Liz and Steve Millier in 1983 in the cellar of their former home in Murphy's CA. Following their dreams of making premium wines from the Sierra Foothills, today Milliaire Winery has expanded to include the next generation of the Millier family and occupies over an 8,000 square foot winery with a dedicated barrel room and modern crush pad facility.
Our Winemaker
After 36 harvests, Steve Millier is still exploring, learning and most importantly, having fun in the winery. He graduated from Fresno State with a degree in enology (winemaking) in 1975. His drive to understand the whole of winemaking led him to pursue a second degree in viticulture (grape growing). He knows the science and art of winemaking and grape growing from the ground up. Our Vineyards
We label our wines "Vineyard Selections" because we are fortunate to have access to a variety of outstanding Foothill vineyards. We have worked with the same growers for thirty years and value their friendship and dedication to the quality fruit they produce. In the winery we continue that dedication to excellence, our wines are truly handmade! Only the finest grapes are chosen and minimally processed, using native yeasts and cellaring in French and American Oak barrels. This allows the unique characteristics of each vineyard to be expressed.
BLACK SHEEP WINERY, A BRIEF HISTORY
Black Sheep Winery arrived in Murphys with the 1984 harvest. Our founders Janis and David Olson crushed their first Zinfandel, with assistance from current owner and winemaker, Steve Millier. The wine was styled in a big, bold way like nobody else could do. That's what makes us Black Sheep; we're different from the rest of the flock.
In 2007 David and Janis decided to retire and ride their bicycles into the sunset, they decided to turn over the Black Sheep legacy to their good friends Steve and Liz Millier. We are very familiar with the Black Sheep style, and are excited to carry on the tradition.
Steve Millier has had a very distinguished career for over 30 years. He began his journey at the David Bruce Winery in 1975, and has continued to make award winning wines at Stevenot, Ironstone and Milliaire.
Zinfandel is the bedrock of what we're about, but over the years we have expanded our offerings to include Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz. We have just added our Port style offering which we call Fortissimo.
In Spring of 2007 we moved the tasting room up Main Street to our current location in the historic yellow farmhouse. We welcome guests daily from 11 to 5. Stop by and meet our daughter Kathy Millier and sample our fantastic new releases.
