Mountain Playschool Has Openings For Preschool Aged Children

Arnold, CA....Mountain Playschool has openings for preschool aged children. At Mountain Playschool children prepare for academic success through play based learning. As a preschool co-op parents work in the class room, which keeps costs down and is a great way to get to know other families in the community. Call today and schedule a visit! Check out our website at http://www.mountainplayschool.com.

Welcome!

We at Mountain Playschool believe the education of young children begins in the home and in the immediate community. Our school extends and enriches these previous learning experiences and helps lay the groundwork for the child’s physical, emotional, intellectual, and social life. In order to accomplish these goals, we work together, as an extended family.

A co-op playschool is a very unique experience. We feel it is important that every family understands from the very beginning what is expected of them as a co-op participant. Please read over this handbook carefully, asking questions when needed. You will be responsible for knowing your obligations and making an honest commitment to them. This school belongs to all of us, and together we can make this a great year!

Program Purpose
Mountain Playschool, Inc. is organized to facilitate: social, emotional and academic opportunities for preschool-aged children; meaningful networking and parenting skills development for their families; and awareness of the importance of integration of the community at all levels of education to foster a life-long love of learning.

Program Philosophy
We believe each child is unique: he is on a continuum with his own timetable for development. We shall realize, appreciate and respect children’s differences. We believe that the early years are the most important years of life for developing a sense of self and life-long learning skills. We believe the preschool needs to be a positive, play-based, safe and nurturing environment. We believe that the family and school share the responsibility of the child’s school experiences. We strongly affirm that parent education and involvement must be an integral part of the school program.

Program Goals
Our emphasis is on preparing the whole child for school readiness, not just academic achievement and easily “testable” achievements. We believe readiness is a child who can: listen to stories and directions; hear basic phonemic differences; verbalize his thoughts and emotions; adjust to changes in routine or opposition; play cooperatively and has comparative dexterity; work without being easily frustrated and takes pride in his efforts.

Program Operations
We are open from 8:30 am to 11:30 am on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from mid-August until early June. We accept children from age 2 ½ up until entry into 1st grade. We follow the Vallecito Unified School District Calendar for Holidays and Snow Days. More information about VUSD may be found at www.vsd.k12.ca.us. Each family is responsible for monthly dues, volunteering for a rotating classroom workday, a parent job, attending quarterly membership meetings, contributing toward fundraisers, and participating in a few social events throughout the school year. All services provided are described in this handbook, transportation to and from the facility is not provided. Snack is provided once a day. Snacks will be prepared at the facility.

Academic Program Curriculum

Zoophonics- Developed by a team of educators with over 75 years of teaching experience, this program develops phonemic awareness of the alphabet. By using large motor skills and active participation, the students are introduced to the lower case letters in a playschool fashion.
Handwriting Without Tears- Developed by a team of occupational therapists, this program creatively introduces handwriting of the upper case letters. Using developmental stages of the small motor skills, we explore the structure of each letter and begin the stages of handwriting.
