Renowned Neuroscientist Bruce Perry, M.D., Ph. D. Comes to Calaveras County for a Workshop on Childhood Trauma, February 21, 2014
San Andreas – Calaveras County professionals, parents, and interested community members will have a rare local opportunity to learn from a leading authority on childhood brain development this February. Bruce D. Perry, M.D., Ph.D, Senior Fellow of the Child Trauma Academy, a not-for-profit organization based in Houston, TX, and adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Finberg School of Medicine, will present a day-long workshop entitled “Understanding Childhood Trauma-Creating a Trauma-Informed Community,” Friday, February 21, 2014, 8:15 am – 4:15 pm at the San Andreas Community Town Hall, 24 Church Street in San Andreas. Dr. Perry is widely considered to be the leading authority on the impact of childhood trauma on brain development....
The workshop is offered at no cost to all Calaveras County residents and those who provide services to children in Calaveras County. As space permits, the workshop will be available to others in the region for a $35 registration fee.
Participants will gain knowledge in the following areas:
· Principles of Brain Organization & Development
· The Impact of Trauma in Young Children and Youth
· Principles and Strategies for Working with Children and Youth
· Implications for Professionals and Front-Line Caregivers

The event is being sponsored by Calaveras County Behavioral Health Services through funding from the Mental Health Services Act and by First 5 Calaveras, in partnership with Mark Twain Medical Center, Calaveras Child Care Council, Amador Child Care Council, Prevent Child Abuse Council-Calaveras, Mind Matters, Calaveras County Office of Education, Calaveras Youth Mentoring program, Calaveras County Health and Human Services, and First 5 Tuolumne.
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be offered for MFT/LCSWs at no cost to Calaveras County residents. Other CEUs will be offered where available; details will be provided at the time of registration confirmation.
