February in Murphys Means Chocolate Indulgence ~ CVB Feature
Murphys, CA....With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, chocoholics among us rejoice in the tradition of chocolate giving and receiving. And for those of us who seek consolation for our single-hood, chocolate is the perfect indulgence. Poets and scientists have long attempted to describe and explain the nature of chocolate’s attraction. Is it even possible to be miserable while eating chocolate? I have seen irritable, bickering children brighten immediately with the mere suggestion of the possibility of chocolate. And haven’t most of us had rotten days full of woe and despair turn sunny and bright with the first delicious bite?
Whatever it is about this miraculous sweet, you can certainly indulge your cravings over the next couple of weeks in Murphys. Beginning on February 8th, Newsome Harlow’s “Zin Flights & Chocolate Bites” features their five zinfandels paired with chocolates from Her Coconess Confections, a 2013 Good Food Award winner for their Vanilla Bean Salted Caramels.
Hovey, another local winery, is pairing up with Angels Camp chocolatier, The Chocolate Lady to present “An Evening of Chocolate Decadence,” and then on February 9th, the First Congregational Church is offering up an all-you-can-eat “Heavenly Chocolate Festival.”
February 14th brings Zucca Winery’s Chocolate, Cheese & Port Pairings, which manages to bring together three favorite indulgences. What could be better?
Looking to purchase chocolates for your Valentine? Try local, handcrafted artisinal chocolates from The Chocolate Lady in historic downtown Angels Camp or in historic downtown Murphys be sure to check out Nelson’s Candies for a variety of hand-made confections. Other chocolate treats can be found in historic downtown Murphys at Lila and Sage in the form of cupcakes, while Aria Bakery & Cafe offers chocolate truffle cups, cake and eclairs year-round.
