Mother Lode Round-Up Queen Contestant: Evon Meckler
Jamestown, CA... The Tuolumne County Sherriff's Posse has been sponsoring the Motherlode Round Up Queen's Contest for 37 years and the kickoff for 2014 was on a Sunday evening where the public was introduced to the six Queen Contestants for 2014. We will be featuring each of the Round Up Queen Contestants as we receive their pictures and bios! Our first Queen Contestant to be featured is Evon Meckler who writes:
“Hi, I'm Evon Meckler! The daughter of Marty and Kim Meckler. I was born in Sonora, raised in Jamestown. (more inside)
I'm 17 years of age and attend Sonora Union High School as a junior! I'm highly involved in the schools FFA program as I'm the 2013-2014 President. In FFA I attend many leadership academies and conferences. I've also been raising and showing swine and turkey's since I was 9 years old! When I have free time, I study for school... As I currently hold a 4.0 or ride Duke, my sorrel quarter horse given to me by Renee Scheller. After I graduate, I hope to attend Fresno State to obtain my degree in animal science, and the study to become a large livestock veterinarian. I've always wanted to run for Round-Up Queen, it's been my dream since 6th grade! I remember being waved to by a Queen, and the contestants! They all looked so great on their horses! I would love to be that inspiration to another girl, just the same way I was inspired! Or even to be that role model people of all ages look up too. I would love to represent my county, Tuolumne County, as well as the Sheriff's Posse! My parents always told me to go after my dreams. I'm going to try my hardest and give it 110%! I'm looking forward to the long journey full of excitement, challenges, memories, friendships and knowledge ahead of me!
Call me at 209-984-5311. $15 for raffle tickets for a drawing of a $1,000 cash prize and you don't need to be present to win. $15 for rodeo tickets that will be held May 10th and 11th which is Mother's Day Weekend! Tickets will be $18 at the gate!”
Evon and each contestant is responsible for selling 200 tickets and they will be looking for additional sponsors as well. Expect to see Evon and the others out and about their communities as they attempt to meet their goals.
