Open House Slated for Updates on Rim Fire Recovery Project
Sonora, CA…The Stanislaus National Forest will host an open house on Thursday, February 13 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Stanislaus National Forest’s Conference Room at 19777 Greenley Road, Sonora (across the street from the Tuolumne County Library). “We want to continue to provide information to the public regarding the progress on the proposed Rim Fire Recovery Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). This will be another great opportunity for the public to see what the Forest is proposing during this initial phase of recovery within the burn,” Maria Benech, Rim Fire Recovery EIS ID Team Leader said. Several dozen members of the local community attended three previous Open Houses held in December which provided an overview of the initial proposed actions and poster presentations by various resource experts. This Open House is intended to share information regarding new alternatives developed based on public involvement and collaborative efforts....
The Rim Fire started on August 17, 2013 in a remote area of the Stanislaus National Forest near the confluence of the Clavey and Tuolumne Rivers about 20 miles east of Sonora, California. The fire burned nearly 257,000 acres, with 154,430 of those acres on National Forest System (NFS) lands, becoming the third largest wildfire in California history. The Rim Recovery EIS is part of the Forest’s long-term strategy for recovery within the Rim Fire.
