Mike Borean Announces Candidacy for Calaveras County Supervisor, District 3

Hathaway Pines, CA....Mike Borean has formally announced he is running as a Candidate for Calaveras County Supervisor, District 3. I was raised in Calaveras County and have lived here most of my life. My wife and I chose to raise our five children here. Having lived in Arnold, Hathaway Pines, and Murphys, I have a deep understanding of our area, its treasures and our challenges. I believe that I have the ideas, skills, experience, and the energy needed to meet our challenges. If elected, I have many goals that I will work towards. These goals include Promote smart growth. Emphasize excellent customer service at the county level.m Encourage business investment by soliciting and encouraging businesses to relocate to Calaveras County, and by removing bureaucratic obstacles to business investment. Maintain the quality of life. This is a great place to live and raise a family. We need to change our economic environment while maintaining our rural charm....

My family moved to Arnold in the 60’s. I attended Hazel Fisher Elementary School before moving on to Bret Harte High School, class of 1975. I attended Delta College in Stockton then transferred to Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo where I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Forest Resources. I was able to put myself through college by working as a Seasonal Firefighter for Cal Fire in Arnold, San Andreas, and Paso Robles.

After college, I worked for American Forest Products as a Forester (the best job I’ve ever had). The deep recession in the early 80’s eliminated many forest products jobs. I made a career change by returning to the fire service as a Firefighter with the City of San Mateo where I rose through the ranks from Fire fighter, Fire Captain and Battalion Chief. During my career in the Bay Area, we continued to live in Calaveras County because it was very important to us that our children were raised here. I am nearing the end of this career and am eager to take on the challenge as your County Supervisor.

I have been involved in the business community in Calaveras County. Together, with my father and brothers, we built several houses on speculation. As an extension of my construction experience, I opened a home design business and have designed over 200 houses. It was with this business experience where I learned how a local government can be an asset, or, a hindrance to our local economy.
I will greatly appreciate your support in the upcoming election. Campaign contributions can be made to “Mike Borean for County
Supervisor” PO Box 1463, Murphys, CA 95247.

My goals defined:

Promote Smart Growth. A county economy is like a tree, it is either growing, or it is dying. We must grow to survive and to prosper. However, we must endorse “Smart Growth” which I define as growth that does not spoil the appearance, the charm, or the beauty of our county.

Emphasize Customer Service. As a firefighter for almost three decades, I understand that public employees are servants of the public. Unfortunately, this concept is lost on many bureaucrats. Every government employee should strive to provide the best possible service to every member of the public.

Encourage Business Investment. Calaveras County is a great place to live and to earn a living. Unfortunately, our jobless rate is high and our average wage is low. To remedy this, I plan on actively soliciting businesses to relocate here. I have met many business owners in the Bay Area with ten to twenty employees who would thrive with our low cost of doing business. I will also work to remove any barriers that discourage anyone from opening a shop in Calaveras County.

Maintain the quality of life. As I said, I love this County and our way of life. If I am successful in meeting these goals, the County will look and feel the same as it does now. The only difference is that our unemployment will be reduced and our average wage will increase.

I am very interested in the concerns, views, and the ideas of my neighbors and I would appreciate the chance to hear from you. I can be contacted by phone at 209-728-3886, by e-mail at mikeborean@comcast.net, or you can leave a comment on my Facebook page “Mike Borean for Calaveras County Supervisor, District 3”.
