Tuolumne, CA....Central Sierra Connect Broadband Consortium cordially invites you to attend our 2014 Regional Broadband Summit on Thursday, April 24th at the Black Oak Casino Resort Conference Center, in Tuolumne County. We've put together a very informative program centered on broadband and featuring experts in the field. Technology advancements and innovations have enhanced virtually all aspects of our daily lives. We continue to see progress made in: communication, education, healthcare, entertainment, etc. and, for the most part, the price of admission is high-speed internet access, commonly referred to as broadband. Lack of availability of broadband services in rural areas such as the Central Sierra foothills leaves a significant number of residents, businesses and visitors unable to fully utilize all the internet has to offer. In addition, overall usage is growing as more of us connect to the internet, add devices and users engage in increasingly sophisticated online activities requiring additional bandwidth. We will directly address the situation at our summit and provide a forum for dialog, discussion, networking, policy planning and creation of potential solutions....

Presenters & Speakers for the Central Sierra Connect Broadband Regional Summit
Sunne Wright McPeak, Keynote Speaker for the Sunne Wright McPeak, Keynote Speaker for the Morning Session is the President and CEO of the California Emerging Technology Fund (CETF), a statewide non-profit organization whose mission is to close the Digital Divide by accelerating the deployment and adoption of broadband. She assumed the position as the CETF first chief executive in December 2006 after serving for three years as Secretary of the California Business, Transportation and Housing Agency. With McPeak’s vision and drive, CETF has positioned California as a national leader in closing the Digital Divide, initiating groundbreaking applications such as the California Telehealth Network, Digital Literacy, Smart Housing Policy, School2Home (to improve education), and Get Connected! (to drive adoption). Previous to working with CETF, Ms. McPeak served in the Governor’s Cabinet as the Secretary of California Business, Transportation and Housing Agency (California’s largest state agency) with oversight for more than 42,000 employees and a budget in excess of $11 billion; was the President and CEO of the Bay Area Council, addressing regional economic prosperity issues; and served as a Contra Costa Board of Supervisors for more than 15 years, after being elected at age 30. You could say that this woman is a dynamo, but that would be an understatement.
Zach Friend, Keynote Speaker for Lunch is the current Board Chair for Santa Cruz County, and a champion for broadband policy adoption. He is also a policy, public affairs and communications expert who has worked for Barack Obama and John Kerry’s presidential campaigns, the White House Council of Economic Advisers, U.S. Senate, Congressman Sam Farr and the Democratic National Committee. He is also the author of a compelling and insightful book entitled “On Message”, a groundbreaking step-by-step guide detailing how to master a powerful narrative, get your point across, and achieve long-term results in your business, non-profit or campaign.
Steve Blum, Host for the Afternoon Session on Broadband Policy Adoption is the President of Tellus Venture Associates, a management and business development consultancy for the digital media and telecommunications industries, specializing in developing new community broadband systems. He is a 30-year industry veteran and recognized as an expert in developing new satellite, wireless and fiber optic broadband systems, and Internet services and products. He is the author of seven books on these subjects. Accomplishments include playing key roles in the launch and growth of DirecTv in the U.S., as well as other satellite broadcasting platforms around the world. He helped build the first satellite distribution system for network radio in 1980, and was an award-winning broadcast journalist and television executive. He spent two years as a Fellow at the Jackson School of International Studies, and followed it up with consulting and research in Japan.
Connie Stewart, Co-Host for the Afternoon Session on Broadband Policy Adoption is the Executive Director of the California Center for Rural Policy, a research center committed to informing policy, building community, and promoting the health and well-being of rural people and environments at Humboldt State University. Connie is also a member of the Broadband Forum which intends to forge global agreement on technical specification, share deployment best practices, promote the market for broadband and facilitate development of interoperable broadband-based network components. She is a former Field Representative for Assemblymember Patty Berg and the former Mayor and Councilmember of the City of Arcata.
