John Trifilo For Superior Court Judge Dept. Two

Calaveras County, CA...John Trifilo was born and raised in San Jose, CA. He attended San Jose State College in the 60's, and graduated with a B.A. in Political Science in 1970. John then spent time training in Fort Knox, Kentucky for the Army National Guard. After returning to California, John was accepted to the University of San Francisco Law School in 1971. He graduated three years later in the top 25% of his class. He passed his first bar exam and was admitted to the practice of law in 1974...

John opened his own private practice within weeks of learning that he had passed his exam. He spent his first years of practice learning the ins and outs of the court system in Santa Clara County. He had a criminal defense practice and also was involved in criminal appeals work, contract disputes, personal injury and family law. Over the years he associated with a number of other attorneys and shared expenses, but always maintained his own clients and practice.

Through the years he discovered his personality was well suited for family law. He handled divorce cases, custody / visitation issues, paternity matters, and adoptions. These were all highly charged and emotional cases, but John truly enjoyed being able to help his clients through these most difficult of times. He believes that he was successful in this area of the law because his clients believed that he truly understood their emotional trauma and pain and that he was doing his best to help them through the pain and process.

Throughout almost 40 years in practice, John has continued with a general practice and emphasized his knowledge and experience in family law. However, he has also continued to handle property disputes, personal injury litigation, and other civil matters.

John currently has his primary practice in Murphys, CA. He also maintains a part- time office in Santa Clara County, where he initially began his practice. He attends to those clients that ask for his assistance in Tuolumne, Santa Clara, and, of course, Calaveras County.

John lived and worked in Santa Clara County most of his career. In 1999, he and his family bought their current home in the community known as Forest Meadows, located in the eastern part of Murphys. John opened up his current office in Murphys shortly thereafter.

John has represented clients that have sought his services from all over the state. He has appeared in litigation matters in Santa Cruz, Fresno, San Joaquin, Sacramento, Amador, Tuolumne, Santa Clara and Calaveras County's. Throughout those years he has appeared in hundreds of contested matters and hearings. He has been in numerous trials, before judges throughout the state. (John has been endorsed by Supervising Judges for the Family Law Benches of Santa Clara County and Sacramento counties).

John has extensive court room experience. He has appeared in front of and has observed the personalities, demeanor and procedures followed by dozens of judges throughout those counties mentioned. Each case has brought him new experiences. With the experience gained, he believes that he has acquired the knowledge necessary to be a good judge.

John believes that he can turn his 40 years of experience into the right mix of compassion, experience, knowledge and attitude to be an exceptional judge for this county.
