The New Calaveras County Jail and Sheriff's Offices Dedication

San Andreas, CA..We will have a full story and video to follow but below are the raw photos from this morning. There were dignitaries upon dignitaries and even the Measure J backers were honored for their work in getting the funding mechanisms passed. There are still a few duplicates that need to be eliminated etc. but many of you who attended or could not make it might like a quick look. It is a very impressive facility....

How sad and telling that the newest, most expensive and modern buildings in this little county were constructed as a result of our failed justice system. Think what else that money could have built or done for the county.

    Too Personal

I just wonder if the jailers will put *bleep*x in a cell when he's brought in for DUI!

I agree. It gives me the chills to see that photo of the inside.
I didn't know we would ever have the need for this large facility when we moved here 27 years ago.
Maybe tours by the youth of the county will help stop those who may have misdeeds on their minds.

It is hard to believe that we spend this kind of money to house people that make it a" profession" to get a room in this place, not to mention the health care, and other perks! No wonder criminals don't mind spending part or a good part of their life locked up, all they have to do is wait for the place to get overcrowded, and they are let go till the vacancy sign gets lit again. How many of you know people that go in and out of jail, we pay for them, they steal us blind, and on and on it goes!

The gym equipment was paid for by the Deputy's Association and they pay a fee to use it.

Off track, I was wondering how come Pine Tree took down the comments pertaining to "Why Kuntz is running for Sheriff".. Delete the comments that are too rude but why all??? Just think its funny that if anything negative is said about Kuntz, even if it is done with class is taken down... Is it just me???

I'm so thankful that they finally built a decent, clean up to date, 5star hotel for all of the people that take drugs, rob us blind, beat their kids and spouses, drink and kill innocent families, the list is too long, hopefully that will suffice as being positive, since telling the truth is too much for some to handle!

Sheriff Kuntz continues to be an embarassment to this county, he mumbled and stumbled through his entire speach. Duh, duh, duh. The picture of Kuntz and Amador County Sheriff Ryan shows a professional, educated, self-confident man, Ryan, standing next to a dumpy, sloppy, high school educated knucklehead, Kuntz.
We need to improve our image, between our Sheriff and the majority of our BOS, Calaveras County is a joke! Think about your vote this upcoming election, we need a complete make-over!!!!!!!!!

How uninformed you are. You can thank previous sheriff Downum for pushing these new buildings through, not the current administration. So, if your upset about how money is being spent, voting garrahan in, downums poster boy, will put us back to where we were 5 yrs ago. If you read you would see that kuntz is saving money by not buying new cars and not promoting for needless positions but instead putting more deputies on the streets. Kuntz didn't want this new jail any more than we did.

This is a special shout-out to Captain Eddie Ballard, who for the last 3 1/2 years has been exposed to bullying, humiliation, and threats from Kuntz. Captain Ballard has gone unrecognized for his efforts in building this jail, all because he ran against Kuntz in the last election. Captain Ballard single handedly oversaw the entire construction of the new jail, but because of his expertise and knowledge was intentionally left out of the limelight because of Kuntz's insecurities and hatred for Ballard. Thank you Capt. Ballard for all your hard work on this project. You are a asset to the Sheriff's Dept. and are appreciated and admired by many people.

for the person who is now trying to say it was Ballard who we need to thank for the jail and budget... being undersaff??? you need to look no further than Kuntz.. He was constantly changing things.. petty things.. deadlines not being met due to his insecurities.. its a joke.. everyone in that dept knows it.. Kuntz makes personal positions for "pretty" little women that he likes... his own personal assist???? Please.. And Ballard was doing a JOB... he was put in charge of a task and he did it well... if you only knew just how insecure and ignorant Kuntz really is..

I think I need to put his in simple terms for you... the overruns ??/ You can thank Sheriff Macedo... I mean Kuntz.. Ballard has put put in a little janitors room so no one can see or hear him.. Ed was not allowed to finish what he started.. Kuntz put people who did not know what they were doing, giving promotions to people because they supported him... than we wonder why nothing was done on time or over budget??? Kuntz and his little tantrums...I wonder if these comments will be taken down??

you make no sense.. Ballard was over seeing the construction, balanced a budget, etc.. he is a worker.. did not come up with the numbers.. he was given he numbers.. he was giving very little to work with due to the fact that Kuntz wouldnt grant him any help.. belittled him every single chance he got.. Everyone knows this.. I have witnessed it more times than I care to remember.. Its embarrassing to have a Sheriff behave this way.. So get off Capt Ballard.. He has continued to do an upstanding job and continues to treat everyone with respect... even the ones who treat him horribly and know its okay because the Sheriff encourages it.. treat Ballard kindly, you get called all sorts of names or told to watch yourself if you dont want to be in the same boat..

I thought the photographs taken during the Pledge of Allegiance were interesting, in that so many people did not place their right hands or their hats over their hearts. Many people simply stood with hands clasped or arms folded.
