Cattle Gather Operation Concluded According to BLM

Clark County, NV...Statement from Director of the Bureau of Land Management Neil Kornze on the Cattle Gather in Nevada: As we have said from the beginning of the gather to remove illegal cattle from federal land consistent with court orders, a safe and peaceful operation is our number one priority. After one week, we have made progress in enforcing two recent court orders to remove the trespass cattle from public lands that belong to all Americans....

Based on information about conditions on the ground, and in consultation with law enforcement, we have made a decision to conclude the cattle gather because of our serious concern about the safety of employees and members of the public.

We ask that all parties in the area remain peaceful and law-abiding as the Bureau of Land Management and National Park Service work to end the operation in an orderly manner.

Ranching has always been an important part of our nation’s heritage and continues throughout the West on public lands that belong to all Americans. This is a matter of fairness and equity, and we remain disappointed that Cliven Bundy continues to not comply with the same laws that 16,000 public lands ranchers do every year. After 20 years and multiple court orders to remove the trespass cattle, Mr. Bundy owes the American taxpayers in excess of $1 million. The BLM will continue to work to resolve the matter administratively and judicially.

No, but when the courts say it is legal, it is legal. The courts told this guy to get his cattle off the public land. That was legal. The guy said he follows almost zero federal laws. The guy ought to be in jail for contempt of court.

Enforcement of the law and court orders is not tyranny. That is a basic American value. The guy had his days in court, bur continues to be a freeloader and scofflaw. He will pay, he will lose, and he should. Ranchers all over the west honor their responsibilities- he isn't special.

Tyranny? You don't know what real tyranny is unless you have lived elsewhere. It is not "tyranny" to expect people to abide by the laws and the courts. It is not tyranny to expect people to pay their dues like everyone else.

You sound like the Oklahoma City bomber, McVeigh or some such terrorist.

Federal forces don't like the little man standing up for himself. Anyone calling this a win gets their definitions from football where it's all over in a couple hours and one team tears down the goal posts and goes home.

This is just the beginning. It's not an ending. And Mr. Bundy isn't the only person in this land under federal oppression.

For 20 years Mr Bundy didn't pay grazing fees on BLM Public Lands. The other law abiding cattlemen did pay their fees.Bundy didn't own the land the cattle grazed on.

What we have here is lawlessness. The courts have decided against the Bundys every time citing the law.Calling in their militia pals only shows the lawlessness of these militias.

The government is responsible for managing public lands for the entire nation. Thousands of ranchers across the west honor this. A few criminals refuse to honor our laws. Bundy is one of them. He wants to do what he wants to do and to hell with the rest of us. Bundy and Dingy Harry are both Wrong!
Posted on: 2014-04-13 21:27:51   By: Anonymous

It looks like we have two separate but overlapping scandals here. One is a rancher who has been allowed to get away with not paying his grazing fees for his grazing allotment on federal land for over twenty years. The other is Dingy Harry and whatever corrupt activity he is up to dealing with his son’s solar project. The second may be influencing the first but it makes Bundy no less wrong or guilty.

"public land" means government land, not ours to use at will. This is the entire premise behind what Bundy is doing.
I too do not feel he should have to pay rights to the government to use land his family has used for 150 years.

            This is a range war.

They decide what we can do on our lands, when we can do it, its not right. Remember when BLM went on strike, New Melones lake was closed? A entire lake, which we pay for, is CLOSED to our use because they are on strike.
            What a joke.

The near sighted can scoff, the liberal left can whine, but in reality, this action will go down in American history as a group of armed ranchers stood up to un fair government laws, and backed them down.
I can only hope it starts a domino effect with more ranchers.
Then that bleeds into other aspects of our daily life as Americans.
BOTH sides in Washington are making decisions and laws that do not pertain to us, there is no middle class, these lifelong career politicians decide what healthcare is good for us, yet they don't use it.
They decide how we spend our tax dollars, they decide how was regulate our schools, our jobs, and our lives. Many times from so far away they don't care.
People are falling through the cracks.

We should thank the last two presidents. One bankrupted us with idiotic wars, the other is so far from representing real Americans that people laugh at him as he creates health laws that are worse than before.

Its time. An American revolution is needed again. Not with blood and guts, but with people ousting both sides of the corporate owned government who have decided time and time again, there is nothing but hard left, or strict right.

Now its over, and the BLM has blinked, This situation will now be administered in court, not at the end of a gun barrel. I'm not saying that Cliven Bundy is right in defying the BLM, but something has gone really wrong with the American justice system when our government officials feel they can use undue show of force and threats of death to its own citizens to administer legal disputes. This is a matter for the courts and NOT a Quasi Military "Bureau" arm of our Government. Historical use must be considered along with the public lands needs.
AND since when can any Government official declare "First Amendment areas" in a country where FREE SPEECH is one of our founding rights? We are very close to becoming a socialist state when American Citizens are perceived to be a threat to their own government.

Certainly Bundy is at fault. And from what I have read it goes back into the 1990s, which seems too early for a significant solar project. I'm not saying Harry Reid is not capable to corrupt dealing, but I don't think the timeline fits that part of the story.

Either way, these are disputes that should be settled in court In that arena, all we know is that the rancher lost at every turn. That should have settled it.

Don't be so thoughtless. BLM isn't "grabbing" any land. The federal government bought and owned that land from Mexico long before there were any Bundys claiming it. In fact Bundys ancestors and Bundy himself recognized Federal/BLM authority for years and they paid grazing fees like other ranchers-- until this guy got a TP hair up his butt.

Shocking lack of understanding
Posted on: 2014-04-14 08:56:12   By: Anonymous

A lot of posters cheering for lawlessness. But let's be clear. A bunch of yahoos with their guns did not force the BLM to back down. Some administrator or maybe the sheriff made a mature decision to prevent this from turning into a blood bath in which all of the yahoos would have been shot or arrested. Had that decision not been made the National Guard or some government SWAT team would have been called in and without question the rancher and many of his Walter Mitty gun-toting supporters would have been slaughtered.

The rancher is breaking the law. We are a nation of laws and no one with a functioning brain wants it to be otherwise. He has had a chance to make his case in court, and he has failed every time. The desert belongs to the American people, not to him personally.

Anyone who cheers this as the American Revolution 2.0 is cheering for anarchy. Good luck with that.

Anyone who willfully and repeatedly ignores the laws and court orders should go to jail.

Logging companies, oil companies, mining companies, other ranchers and farmers pay for the use of federal lands. Bundy is not special.

Bundy willfully and repeatedly ignored the law and court orders. He has shirked his duty as a citizen to obey the laws. That makes him a criminal.

And you can bet, if you wanted to go hunting or hiking on the BLM land that he claims to own, he would be on threaten you and chase you off..

Criminal or not, you aren't looking at the big picture. This country doesn't like this sad excuse for a president, or the politicians who don't speak for us anymore.

If people are willing to bear arms against the government, for a guy who is obviously breaking the law, then what does that say not only about the laws but the government in general?

Overlooking that is dangerous. And you might want to watch who you think these militia types are. Many are vets who came back from a war, where the fighting was house to house on a low tech level.
Not all these patriot types are overweight white republicans.

Underestimate the 3% movement and you might find yourself on the wrong side of history.

Its time for a change, And people showing up armed to face the government is not the norm. Didn't happen at ruby ridge or Waco now did it?

Wake up liberal Amorica. those who don't like whats happening to our country are armed and diligent. You are not.

Its painfully obvious that the next civil war in this country, will no be north or south, or east and west. But left and right.
The divide between republican and democrat is at the worst state its ever been.
The differences between the two parties are growing daily.

      Something is going to crack.

The government backed down, as they knew, those that stood up to them in bunkerville would be easy pickings in a fight, but they would have become martyrs thus giving more credibility and sign ups to the militia cause.

We have learned from Iraq and Afghanistan. We learned a small force, lightly armed can bleed the enemy over long periods of time, engaging them at will, while fielding a standing army.
        Never wearing a uniform.
        Never waving a flag.
This will break the mentality of those who wish to hijack our country.
        Dangerous times we live in.

Well, the government is arming every division and bureau it has and is purchasing ammo like crazy, and the liberals are doing their best to disarm the right wing who are buying guns and ammo at an alarming rate. The right wing is its own army, and the liberals are letting the Government be their army, so which side will the Military come down to side with? THAT is the scary part.

Oh, yeah, you really expect to scare people with your arms and bs? If you don't like the pres or the laws, vote to change it. If you take up arms against other people or the elected government because you don't like the laws, you are a criminal, a domestic terrorist. Is that what you are doing, threatening people who you think might be liberal?

These Yahoos have a cult mentality . They listen to Faux and Alex Jones and get their thrills thinking they are "true patriots". They are nothing more than a cult.

It is nothing new that the Government has to deal with cults.Sadly they want to have martyrs to sustain the cult of persecution.

Bundy did pay fees for many years, then with his $Millions, he like the Koch bros decided they were above the law.

This issue is a testament to the desire of some to be in a cult, to nurture a persecution meme, when really there is not.

I pity the T-Pubs, and this cult also both cults believe strongly as cultists do they are correct, and others are wrong.

This issue is another example of the turmoil , persecution, paranoia pushed 24-7 on Fox, most radio stations stoking the fires of stupid. This isn't a matter of an opinion, these outlets constantly fabricate lies, misinformation, and are the reason why many issues are unsurmountable. These outlets foster a cult mentality. The denial of climate change is one very obvious issue in which they are in sociopathic denial .

The Liberals were willing to fight and die for Liberty, the Conservatives were ready to kill the revolutionaries.

I thank the Liberal Founding Fathers for their courage to fight King George, fight and die so we can have this great country.

What is needed is a true populist candidate that will represent the people. It won't come from the Conservatives,or the Tea party, as they are paid for shills of the Koch bros.

I agree that the corporations are running this country, but the tparty and revolution are not the answer. Neither is the modern GOP which has been in the pocket of multinational corporations for years. We don't need a gunfight to correct this. What we need is to elect officials who will stand up for working families.

Less government. Less taxes. More voice. term limits. No corporate political donations. Freedom to marry whom you want. Freedom of womens rights to their own bodies. Freedom to own firearms. These are just some of the issues that are important.
