Outdoor Writers Association of California Enjoy a Tuolumne County “Sampler”

Sonora, CA ... From April 27 through April 29, 2014, the Tuolumne County Visitors Bureau will host 50 OWAC members, associate members and guests to give them a sample of the great outdoor venues Tuolumne County has to offer. For three days, members of the Outdoor Writers Association of California, known as OWAC, converge in Sonora for their Annual Spring Awards Conference, where members recognize their peers for the finest outdoor writing, broadcasting and media videography and programming. The Awards Banquet will be held at the Best Western Plus Sonora Oaks Hotel and Conference Center where Gianelli Vineyards will showcase their wines and Indigeny Reserve will serve up their signature hard cider .

On Monday, the OWAC participants have selected an outdoor activity and will experience some of Tuolumne County’s best outdoor adventures. Outdoor activities include fly fishing at Kennedy Meadows Resort & Pack Station, golfing at Pine Mountain Lake Golf Course in Groveland, Kokanee fishing on Lake Don Pedro, mountain biking on our Rails to Trails, and a Yosemite Photo Hiking Tour provided by YExplore Yosemite Adventures, gold panning with Gold Prospecting Adventures, an Agritour of five Farms of Tuolumne County’s farms and ranches to include; Hurst Ranch, Gianelli Vineyards Tasting Room, Rosemary’s Roses, Indigeny Reserve and Bel Giordino, Kokanee fishing on Don Pedro lake courtesy of Gold Country Sportfishing, and walking tours of Sonora and Columbia.
Other evening activities included a Bar-B-Q and train ride at Railtown 1897 Historic State Park. A few lucky members will attend Sonora’s Spring Festival with a special dinner at the Christopher’s Ristorante and a Sierra Repertory Theatre performance of “Les Miserables”. After the conference some members will have an overnight stay at the Groveland Hotel with dinner at The Cellar Door Restaurant. The Outdoor Writers Association of California members will be extolling the virtues of Tuolumne County through their individual media specialties during and for a long time after the event.
