Since signing to Sugar Hill Records at age 16, Sarah Jarosz has barely stopped to catch her breath, even as she leaves audiences and critics alike breathless. Rolling Stone has compared her to Gillian Welch; Mojo labeled her a “newgrass prodigy” for her skills on banjo, guitar and mandolin; and the normally reserved New York Times hailed her as “one of acoustic music’s finest talents,” with songwriting chops to match her instrumental prowess.
Violinist Alex Hargreaves of Corvallis, Oregon, plays a wide variety of styles and has been mentored by some of the greats in acoustic roots music and jazz. He has toured with David Grisman, Mike Marshall, Danilo Perez, Bela Fleck, Jerry Douglas, and Darol Anger, among others. Hargreaves performs and tours regularly with singer/multi-instrumentalist, Sarah Jarosz, appearing on her three critically acclaimed albums, Song Up In Her Head, Follow Me Down and Build Me Up From Bones (Sugar Hill Records), as well as being featured on her Grammy-nominated instrumental, Mansinneedof.
Cellist Nathaniel Smith's mentors include Carlton McCreery, the University of Alabama, Andres Diaz, Innsbrook Institute, jazz pianist, Jimmy Jarret, and guitarist Barry Leach. Also, Nathaniel attended Mark O'Connor's Summer String Camps where he was tutored by and jammed with Rushad Eggelston, Natalie Hass, Darol Anger, and a host of other A-list musicians in multiple genres. Nathaniel enjoys many musical styles and may be seen as cellist, bassist, and composer performing locally and on the national scene in various genres. Currently Nathaniel performs regularly with Natalie MacMaster, Jeremy Kittel, and Sarah Jarosz.
