9th Annual Slush Cup Does Not Disappoint

Bear Valley, CA...The 9th Annual Slush Cup, benefitting the Bear Valley Snowsports Education Foundation (BVSEF) was held on Sunday, April 20th at Bear Valley Mountain under sunny spring skies. True to the name, the Slush Cup proved to be a slushy snow condition head-to-head racing affair for the Finals that are historically held on Sunday of the ski area’s closing weekend. Each year the Slush Cup provides a competitive throw down for local alpine skiers, snowboarders and Telemark enthusiasts. There are various age groups for both Male and Female categories in each discipline based on being an alpine or non- alpine competitor and the fastest run of the finals declares the winner in each division....

Over 50 racers competed in this year’s race. U.S. Ski Team member Erik Arvidsson won. Every annual Slush Cup event starts with morning qualifying where racers are seeded for the afternoon Finals based on the their fastest of two runs of the morning’s dual action. The Finals then position the fastest racer’s best time with the second fastest racer’s best time and so on down through the entire field. All this makes for really exciting and close races right up until the last pairing has their second and final run.

Division winners for this year’s Slush Cup: Male 12 & Under – Noah Cashman (22.90); Female 12 & Under – Michelle Morozinski (23.75); Male Teen – Erik Arvidsson (20.42); Female Teen – Keely Cashman (21.70); Male 21-39 – Mike Schimke (21.96); Female 21-39 – Lash Loomis (24.32); Male 40-54 – Patrick Caron (22.69); Female 40-54 – Ellen Hoffman (24.75); Male 55 & Over – Larry Lipe (23.89); Female 55 & Over – Carol Arvidsson (28.53); Male Non-Alpine/Tele – Joe Ziblay (28.84); Female Non-Alpine/Tele – Kimi Johnson (36.88).

A special recognition goes out to Ellen Hoffman, Brad & Cora Davidson, Dave Kaiser, Aaron Johnson, George Thomas, Mike & Tim Schimke and Ross Alford. Event sponsors: Gateway Press, Bear Valley Mountain & Snowshoe Brewing Company.
